与骏骏讨论电学知识

大概十天前,我上午上班前给了骏骏一本 Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science 系列中的 Switch On, Switch Off 让他自己看,当天晚上睡觉前我再给他读一遍。这是一本关于电学的科普书,用五岁儿童读得懂的语言,深入地介绍了电学的一些基本知识。
第二天上班前,我问骏骏:“There's an episode in Bill Nye the Science Guy about electricity. Would you like to watch?” 骏骏十分高兴地说:“Oh, great!”我开了 DVD 就上班了,骏骏自己看电视。
当天晚上,我参加一项春节前的应酬活动,回到家时,骏骏已经睡了,错过了他的睡前阅读时间,十分可惜。第二天早上,骏妈醒来就告诉我:“昨晚睡觉前,你儿子给我读那本 Switch On, Switch Off,整本书都是他自己读下来的,太棒了!”我笑了笑,没说什么,其实骏骏早就具有这样的阅读能力了,即使我没给他读过那本书,我相信他自己把整本读下来也没什么问题。
这之后的几天,我没再提过电学方面的东西。我也不打算主动考他什么。但是今天晚上给他洗澡时,不记得聊了什么了,话题却转到电学上来。
骏骏问:“Daddy, do you know how people make electricity?”
我假装说:“I don't know. Can you tell me?”
骏骏答道:“They burn oil to generate electricity.”
我听了,突然有意考考他对电学了解多少。我就问他:“Is it the only way to generate electricity? Do you know any other ways to produce electricity?”
骏骏不假思索地答道:“We can also use wind to generate electricity. Wind can turn a windmill generator to produce electricity.”
说到这里,骏骏反过来考我:“Daddy, do you know what a wind farm is?”我又假装不知道:“Is it a farm that grows rice?”骏骏说:“No.”我又猜:“Is it a farm that grows vegetable?”骏骏又否定:“No. It's a place with lots of windmills to produce electricity!”
我怕他把话题扯远了,马上又问他:“Is there any other ways to generate electricity?”
骏骏想了想,说:“People use dams.”我见他说得不完整,就提示他:“How can dams produce electricity?”骏骏这才补充完整:“Dams can hold back water in a river. When dams let the water go down, the water can turn turbines to generate electricity.”
好小子,知道的还真不少。我又问:“Any other ways to generate electricity?”
骏骏歪着脑袋想了想,这回他真的想不出其它发电方式了。
我又提示他:“People can use sunlight to generate electricity.”
骏骏恍然大悟:“Yes! They use solar panels!”
我赞许地点点头,然后又催他想其它发电方式。见他想不出来,我说:“How about coal?”骏骏不服气:“But burning coal to generate electricity can polute the air.”
我同意他的观点:“Burning fossil fuel to generate electricity is not a good idea. People are trying to find cleaner ways to produce electricity, such as wind power and solar energy. Do you know that people also use waves to generate electricity?”
骏骏读的书上没谈过海浪发电,Bill Nye 大概也没讲过,骏骏十分惊奇地问:“Really? Can people use waves to generate electricity?”我告诉他:“Yes. People put generators in the sea. When waves come, they can turn the turbines.”
我知道骏骏应该是想不出其它发电方式了,就再告诉他另一种发电方式:“Nuclear power can also be used to produce electricity.”这一点骏骏以前在核潜艇和核动力航母的 DVD 上了解过,一说他就知道了。
考完了发电方式,我又想再深入一步,考他电力是如何产生的:“Why can generators produce electricity?”
想不到居然没难倒他,骏骏很从容地说:“A wire coil moves between magnets. When it moves, electrons will start to jump from atom to atom. That is electricity.”
这时我也不禁感叹,他是怎么知道的?是以强大的记忆力记住了书上的内容,还是真的理解透了?
骏骏见我一时无语,反过来考我:“Daddy, do you know what will happen when a circuit breaks?”
我狡黠地说:“The electricity will still be there.”
骏骏马上反驳我:“No, there won't be any electricity in the circuit.”
我问他:“Why?”
骏骏说:“Because the electricity should go back to where it started. If there is a break in the circuit, electricity can flow anymore.”
我拍拍他的头,称赞他:“You are quite right!” |
