我打趣道:“Maybe the light thought it was your daddy, so it turned on to answer you.” It's an automatic light.”
我就顺势问骏骏:“Why can it turn on by itself?”骏骏答道:“Because of the sound.”
我又问:“Why can the sound turn it on?”
我把骏骏抱上自行车,然后才慢慢给他解释:“When you make a sound, the air around you vibrates. The switch of the automatic light has a sensor that can detect the vibration in the air. When the vibration is strong enough, it will turn on the light. When the sensor can no longer detect any vibration, it will turn off the light. In this way, the light only turns on when there are people passing by. That will save a lot of electricity.”

The sky is still so bright!”
我向阳台外看去,天空还真是挺明亮的,就问骏骏:“It's almost 9 o'clock in the evening. The sky should be very dark by now. Why is it so bright?”骏骏想了想,没什么头绪,答道:“I don't know.”
我又提示他:“What do you see in the sky?”
The sky is covered by clouds, which reflect the city light. That's what makes the sky so bright. On a clear night, there is no cloud to reflect the city light, so you will find that the sky is darker.”
观察了一下骏骏的反应,他并没有觉得这个话题 boring,仍在凝神听着,就继续讲下去:“The night sky far away from cities is quite different. On a clear night, the star light and moonlight make the sky look brighter. When there are clouds in the night sky, it will be darker.”

Day Light, Night Light -- Where Light Comes From,正好延续今天的话题。

我看了一眼,告诉他:“That's a ventilation pipe.”
骏骏又问:“What is that ventilation pipe for?”我一边锁车一边答道:“For sucking away dirty air so that fresh air will flow in.”
The ventilation pipe goes all around the big underground parking garage. Why should it be so long?”
我先不急于回答他,指了指四周,反而问他:“Do you see any windows here?” 我这才解释道:“This parking garage is under the ground. We can't make any windows on the walls. It's difficult for fresh air to come in. But the cars are giving off exhaust. People are breathing out carbon dioxide. Soon the air in the underground parking garage will be too bad for people to breathe.”
我停好车,拉着骏骏的手往电梯走,边走边继续解释:“That's why we need a ventilation system. It sucks the dirty air out. Then the air pressure in the underground parking garage will become lower, and fresh air will flow in from the entrance and the exit.”

过了一会儿,骏骏兴奋地说:“Daddy, I’ve made a BIG discovery!” What’s that?”

骏骏仍是很兴奋地说:“I found that sound can travel better in water!”我听了觉得很惊讶,两眼放光地问:“That’s a great discovery! How did you find out?”

See? Sound DOES travel better in water!”

That’s great! I learnt that sound can travel faster and farther in water than in air, but I’ve never thought of a way to prove it.”

趁骏骏在洗澡,我继续对他说:“Sound can travel faster and farther in water. That’s why whales can communicate over a huge distance in the vast ocean.”骏骏好奇地说:“Oh, I didn’t know whales could talk in water.”我告诉他:“Yes, they can. So can dolphins.”

我把这个话题继续发挥下去:“Do you think that sound can travel in outer space where there is nothing around?” 我就把问题说得更形象些:“If we are standing on the moon, and I am talking to you, can you hear me?” Sound can only travel through a medium like air or water. There is no air on the moon, so sound can’t travel from my mouth to your ear. Actually, in that situation, we have to wear helmets. We can only talk through other means.” 说到这里,骏骏大声插话:“I know, We can talk through radio.”

The Mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle,今天傍晚拿出来读给他听。 Let's stop here. We can read the rest after supper.” I want to read it NOW!”我只好退让半步:“Well, just one more chapter. After that, you shall go to the table.”

为了让他专心吃饭,我对他说:“If you can finish eating in 30 minutes, you can read the rest of that book after supper. Otherwise, you have to wait until tomorrow to read it.”

25 minutes left... 20 minutes left.”
I have an idea. Maybe we can stop the clock. Then time will stop, and you can eat as slowly as you like.”

No. Even though you stop this clock, the other clocks are still going on.”

If we stopped all the clocks in the world, time would surely stop.”

Silly Daddy! Time can never be stopped. And you can never go back to the last minute.”

If you lose something, you might be able to find it later. But if you waste you time, you can never get it back. There are 15 minutes left.”

我高兴地说:“Ok, you can go to read the rest of that book now.”

我说:“Time is really amazing. If you can travel nearly as fast as light, time will slow down. When you travel at the speed of light, time will stop.”骏骏问:“If you can travel faster than light, will time go backward?”我对此也了解不深,只好简单地说:“It's possible in theory. But in our universe, as far as we know, nothing can go faster than light.”骏骏说:“When I grow up, I want to build a spacecraft that can go faster than light.”

骏骏说:“The skull protects my brain. The skin protects my skull. The hair protects my skin. The air protects my hair. The mosquito net protects the air. The building protects the mosquito net. The cloud protects the building....”

The building is on the earth. The earth is in the solar system. The solar system is in the milky way. The milky way is in the universe.”

The universe is in the university!”

No! A university is not big enough to hold the universe. It's IN the universe.”

I think a university is a city full of universes.”
