181. The Big Boat
Storyteller:
Caillou was very excited, because today they were going on a sailboat.
Caillou:
Look, Daddy, I have a boat, too. Vrrrr!
Rosie:
Vrrrr!
Daddy:
May I borrow your boat? I wanna show you something. See? The reason we call it a sailboat is because it has sails.
Mommy:
When the wind blows in the sails, it pushes the boat on the water.
Caillou:
Me too.
Mommy:
It's time to go to the marina now. That's where they keep the boats.
Caillou:
Yeah!
Daddy:
Okay. You'll need to wear your sneakers. They're the best shoes to wear on a boat. Ready to feel the wind blowing in the sails?
Caillou:
That tickles. Can I bring it, Daddy?
Daddy:
You sure can!
Storyteller:
When Caillou got to the marina, there were lots of boats. But none of them seemed to have sails.
Rosie:
Birdie!
Caillou:
Where's the sailboat?
Mommy:
Hmmm. I'll give you a clue. Our friend Helen's sailboat is brown and white.
Caillou:
I can find it.
Daddy:
Come up here, sailor. You'll have a better view.
Rosie:
Rosie too!
Daddy:
Do you see it?
Caillou:
There!
Helen:
Welcome aboard, everyone. I'm glad you could come.
Storyteller:
The boat rocked a little and Caillou felt a little unsteady.
Caillou:
Mommy, the floor is moving.
Mommy:
It's okay, Caillou. It takes a little time to get used to it.
Helen:
Safety first! I have something special for you. We need to wear these lifejackets while we're on the boat.
Caillou:
I have sneakers, too.
Helen:
Look at that! You're on your way to becoming a true sailor.
Rosie:
Bird!
Daddy:
You know, Helen has a whole house, just like ours, right here, inside her sailboat.
Caillou:
Where is it?
Helen:
I'll show you.
Rosie:
Birdie!
Mommy:
We'll stay out a bit. Rosie likes the seagulls.
Caillou:
Wow! How did you do that?
Helen:
Oh, there are lots of surprises like this on my boat. I have a kitchen in here, too, do you think you can find it?
Daddy:
Hmmm, is this the kitchen?
Caillou:
No, Daddy. This is a bathroom.
Daddy:
There you go, Caillou.
Caillou:
It's a bed. I can't find the kitchen.
Daddy:
I spy what looks like an oven door.
Caillou:
Over here!
Daddy:
Uh-huh!
Helen:
This is my galley. That's what we call a kitchen on a boat.
Helen:
Would you like some grapes?
Caillou:
Yes, please!
Helen:
Maybe the others would like some, too!
Rosie:
Caillou!
Caillou:
Hmmm.
Storyteller:
Caillou saw something way up on the mast that looked familiar.
Caillou:
Hmmm. Hmmm. Look Daddy, Helen has a pinwheel, too, just like mine.
Helen:
And just like yours, mine tells me when the wind is blowing. Looks like it's time to go sailing!
Caillou:
Yeah!
Rosie:
Yeah!
Mommy:
When we're out of the marina, we can shut the motor off, and the sails will do the work.
Daddy:
Almost done. And there. Phew!
Helen:
Let's find the wind, shall we? Here we go!
Storyteller:
Caillou was excited. Helen had turned the boat, so the wind was moving them fast now.
Mommy:
It's all right, Rosie.
Caillou:
Here, Rosie, you can have this.
Rosie:
Whoo!
Caillou:
Wow!
Caillou & Rosie:
Hi!
Caillou:
They don't have a wheel.
Helen:
But they have a tiller. See the stick the man is holding in the back? It steers just like my wheel. Caillou, would you like to help me steer?
Caillou:
Yes!
Helen:
You're doing a fine job, Caillou. I think you can be captain for a while.
Storyteller:
Caillou was very proud to help steer the sailboat. He was having a lot of fun, but the visit was coming to an end.
Daddy:
Thanks, Helen, we had a wonderful time.
Helen:
It was fun sailing with you. Come back soon. Here, Caillou, don't forget this.
Caillou:
Thank you!
Rosie:
Bye bye!
Caillou:
Bye!
Storyteller:
Caillou couldn't stop thinking about the wind blowing the sails. And that evening, he decided to go sailing again.
Daddy:
Almost done. Here you go, Rosie.
Caillou:
See, Rosie, you have to be the wind.
Caillou:
You did it! |
