RULE 8
Do not smack your lips, tsk, roll your eyes, or show disrespect with gestures.
…kids, especially teenagers, love to do it. But I have been able to eliminate it entirely from my classroom. On the first day of school, I ask if anyone in the class can smack their lips really well. I usually get more than a few students who are willing to demonstrate it. I then get students to demonstrate rolling their eyes. We then, as a class, combine the two, and we all smack and roll at the same time. It is usually a lot of fun, and I will always have a few students, the pros, who will turn in a good jerk of the neck and a few finger snaps. I talk to the students about how it is a form of disrespect, and that sometimes you don’t have to say a single word in order to get yourself in a lot of trouble.
After the discussion, we are ready to role-play… |
