224. Caillou's Surprise
Storyteller:
It was a lovely, peaceful morning at Caillou's house.
Caillou:
Mommy, can I have some juice, please?
Mommy:
Of course you can. Your glass is in the dish tray.
Storyteller:
Caillou didn't want to use his regular glass. He wanted to drink from a cup, just like Mommy and Daddy.
Mommy:
Oops! Hold still, Caillou, I don't want you cutting your feet.
Rosie:
Oh!
Mommy:
Oh, what a shame. That's the cup that Grandma made for me!
Caillou:
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to break it.
Mommy:
I know you didn't, honey. It was an accident. Well, I better put these in the trash outside.
Grandma:
Hello there, Caillou. What's the matter?
Caillou:
Hi, Grandma. I broke Mommy's favourite cup. The one you made for her.
Grandma:
Well, I'm sure it was an accident. Don't worry about it. I'll tell you what. I'm going to the craft centre today. Why don't you come along and make her a new one!
Caillou:
Really?
Grandma:
Sure! We'll tell Mommy you're coming to help me, we won't say you're making her a new cup. That way it'll be a nice surprise for her.
Caillou:
This is like school!
Grandma:
That's right! You're never too old to keep learning. This will keep your clothes clean.
Caillou:
I like that one. Can I make a cup like that, Grandma?
Grandma:
I don't see why not. I'm gonna help you.
Caillou:
Hmm, it's like my play clay at home.
Grandma:
It is similar. Except we put this clay in a big oven to dry, and it becomes as hard as rock.
Caillou:
It goes around.
Grandma:
This is how we make pottery. Watch.
Storyteller:
Caillou was amazed. Grandma's pot was appearing like magic!
Caillou:
I'm gonna make a cup for Mommy. Now I'm gonna make a car for Mommy. And now I'm gonna make a flying car. Whee!
Grandma:
What's so funny?
Caillou:
I'm thinking about what I'm gonna make.
Grandma:
Well, come here and let's get started on your cup. Just hold your hands like this until the clay takes the shape of a cup. Not too tight, now.
Caillou:
It's like playing with mud in the backyard.
Grandma:
Maybe that's why everyone likes to do it. Well done, Caillou! Now I'll hollow out the inside. Would you like to make the handle? Just roll the clay this way.
Caillou:
Can I put it on?
Grandma:
Now we have to bake the clay in an oven for a short while to let it dry.
Caillou:
How long does it take?
Grandma:
Not very long.
Storyteller:
After a while Grandma took their cup and pot out of the oven. When they cooled down, Grandma and Caillou sat down to paint them.
Caillou:
Are there any other paints? I don't like these colours.
Grandma:
The colours will turn bright when the cup is fired in the oven.
Caillou:
It has to go in the oven again?
Storyteller:
Caillou was disappointed. His cup didn't look as nice as all the others. He didn't think the colours would really get brighter.
Grandma:
This time it'll fire in the oven overnight and we can come back for it tomorrow.
Caillou:
But I wanted to give it to Mommy today.
Grandma:
Just be a little patient, Caillou. It's only one day. Some things are worth waiting for.
Storyteller:
The next day Caillou was playing with Rosie when Grandma came to pick him up.
Grandma:
Caillou! Do you remember what we need to do today?
Caillou:
Hmm...
Grandma:
We're going back to the craft centre.
Caillou:
Mommy's cup!
Grandma:
Shhh! Don't forget, it's a surprise! All the finished pottery should be over there.
Caillou:
Here's your pot, Grandma.
Grandma:
Thank you, Caillou. But, what about your cup?
Caillou:
Oh!
Grandma:
Remember how you made the handle?
Caillou:
There it is! The colours changed!
Grandma:
That's what happens when we fire the pottery, Caillou. It takes a little longer than modeling clay, but it's worth the extra time.
Caillou:
I'm glad I waited! Would you like some coffee, Mommy?
Mommy:
Not right now, sweetie, thank you.
Caillou:
Hmm... Would you like some milk or juice?
Mommy:
I'm not thirsty, but thanks for asking. What's going on?
Caillou:
Close your eyes, Mommy. Surprise! I made this for you!
Mommy:
Caillou, it's beautiful! How did you do it?
Daddy:
Grandma helped a little.
Caillou:
And I promise I won't break this one.
Mommy:
Thank you very much. It's the best present anyone could ever get.
Storyteller:
Caillou could tell Mommy really liked his cup. Grandma was right. Some things really are worth waiting for!

225. A Surprise For Miss Martin
Storyteller:
One day at playschool Leo was telling everyone about a party he'd been to.
Leo:
My cousin had a birthday party for his pet goldfish Herman.
Caillou:
His goldfish? Did he get presents and everything?
Leo:
Yup. He got a little diver that blows bubbles and moves up and down in his fishtank.
Caillou:
A diver?
Clementine:
That's funny!
Miss Martin:
Herman the goldfish's birthday is in the month of June, just like mine.
Caillou:
When's your birthday?
Miss Martin:
It's next week, on Monday.
Storyteller:
Caillou wanted to do something special for Miss Martin's birthday. But he knew he'd need help.
Caillou:
We should have a surprise party for Miss Martin's birthday.
Clementine:
That sounds like fun!
Leo:
Yeah!
Mommy:
Caillou!
Caillou:
Oh! I have to go, bye!
Clementine & Leo:
Bye!
Caillou:
Miss Martin's birthday is on Monday. Clementine and Leo and I wanna have a surprise birthday party for her.
Mommy:
Oh! That sounds like fun. You're going to need food.
Caillou:
Hmm... Can we make cupcakes? And we need a present too! A surprise present.
Storyteller:
Caillou thought about what would be a good surprise for Miss Martin.
Caillou:
Surprise!
Miss Martin:
Oh! What a shiny car! Oh my! Why, thank you! I've always wanted a cape! Goodness! I love airplanes! Ready for take-off.
Storyteller:
Caillou realized that the presents he'd like to get wouldn't be so good for Miss Martin. He wondered what Miss Martin would like. Maybe Leo and Clementine would know. The next day Caillou's friends came over to help Caillou plan the party. They started by making birthday cupcakes.
Mommy:
Now for some eggs.
Rosie:
Rosie help! Uh-oh!
Mommy:
Don't worry, Rosie, we can clean that up. Why don't you mix the batter instead?
Caillou:
What present should we give Miss Martin?
Leo:
An eraser that never gets smaller.
Clementine:
Or a pink pen with feathers on it.
Caillou:
I know! We can make her a birthday card!
Clementine:
My Mommy likes to get flowers on her birthday. I bet Miss Martin does too.
Caillou:
Good idea!
Mommy:
I can show you how to make paper flowers if you like.
Caillou & Clementine & Leo:
Yeah! Alright!
Caillou:
Let's go make the card first!
Clementine:
I drew a butterfly!
Caillou:
I'm drawing happy faces on the balloons because they're happy it's Miss Martin's birthday.
Leo:
And I'm drawing a big cake with lots of candles on it.
Rosie:
Rosie draw!
Clementine:
Okay, Rosie, here, you can color the grass.
Mommy:
Very nice! Miss Martin will love it. Are you ready to make some paper flowers?
Caillou & Clementine & Leo:
Yeah!
Mommy:
Okay, first we draw some simple flowers next to each other on our sheet.
Rosie:
Pretty flower!
Mommy:
That's wonderful, Rosie! Okay, now we cut them out. Now we take each flower and poke a small hole in it using our pipe cleaner and slide the flower down a little bit. Then curl the top of your pipe cleaner down to make the middle of your flower.
Caillou:
Look at my flower!
Mommy:
They all look beautiful! Now we make some more until we have a nice big bunch.
Caillou & Clementine & Leo:
Yeah!
Caillou:
Now don't forget, Clementine, you bring the card, and Leo, you bring the flowers. I'll bring the cupcakes.
Leo:
Okay.
Clementine:
Bye Caillou!
Storyteller:
Caillou was very excited about surprising Miss Martin. He couldn't wait for her birthday to arrive. On Monday morning they brought the card and the flowers and the cupcakes.
Caillou:
Remember, it's a surprise, okay, you guys?
Storyteller:
And they had to be especially careful that Miss Martin didn't see them.
Caillou:
Miss Martin? Can you close your eyes?
Miss Martin:
Okay, but just for a minute.
Caillou:
When I count to three, okay? One, two, three...
Kids:
Surprise! Happy Birthday!
Miss Martin:
Oh my! Such a wonderful card! And these beautiful flowers too! Thank you! Cupcakes, too? Lovely! You really thought of everything!
Caillou:
We made the cupcakes ourselves. Mommy helped too.
Miss Martin:
Oh my, mmmm...
Kids:
They look good. She likes them!
Clementine:
I'm gonna have one.
Caillou:
Daddy! We had a fun party! Miss Martin was really surprised and she liked her cupcake too! Can I have a surprise party for my birthday?
Daddy:
Ha ha ha! We'll see.

[Song]we're having a party
We're having a party.
We're gonna have a good time.
All my friends are here and it's gonna be a special day.
We're having a party.
We're gonna play lots of games.
All right!
We're gonna dance around then everybody shouts hooray!
Hooray!
There are different kinds of parties.
You can celebrate lots of things.
Birthdays, holidays, graduations.
And we all get to sing, la la la la!
We're having a party.
We're having a party.
Everybody put on your hat.
Put on your hat.
We're gonna eat a lot of cake and make some noise
Yeah!
It's fun to get presents.
But I like giving them more.
Cause making somebody happy is the very best present for sure.
We're having a party.
We're having a party.
And now it's almost done.
It's almost done.
Now let's all help clean up.
Yes, having a party is fun.

226. A Surprise Sleepover
Storyteller:
It was early evening and Caillou and Sarah were having fun playing outside.
Caillou:
I caught it!
Sarah:
It looks like it's going to rain.
Caillou:
Daddy's home!
Daddy:
Hi, Caillou. Hi, Sarah. I feel drops! Did someone leave the sprinkler on?
Caillou:
No, Daddy! It's raining!
Mommy:
Hurry up, everybody, or you'll get all wet!
Daddy:
Hurry up! Hurry up!
Mommy:
Just in time! You almost got soaked.
Caillou:
Gilbert's a scaredy cat. I'm not afraid of storms. Uh-oh.
Daddy:
Stay right where you are everybody. I'll find a flashlight.
Rosie:
Mommy!
Mommy:
Don't worry! I'm right here, sweetie.
Daddy:
Here we are!
Rosie:
No!
Daddy:
Don't worry, Rosie, it's only me.
Mommy:
I've got some candles in the kitchen.
Daddy:
To the kitchen!
Caillou & Sarah:
To the kitchen!
Storyteller:
At first Caillou was a little afraid when the lights went out, but with the candles lit things didn't look so scary anymore.
Daddy:
Here we go.
Caillou:
Why did the lights go out, Daddy?
Daddy:
Oh, I think the rainstorm caused it. Sometimes lightning hits power lines and makes the power go out.
Sarah:
Let's see if everybody else's lights are out too.
Caillou:
Yeah! Wow! All the lights in the whole world went out.
Daddy:
Probably just the lights in our neighbourhood. Let's listen to the radio and find out what's happening. Aw! Cut it out! I can't see.
Radio:
Officials expect power to be restored shortly.
Daddy:
We just have to wait a little longer and the lights will come back on.
Caillou:
How come the radio works when we don't have power?
Sarah:
Batteries! Right?
Daddy:
You're absolutely right. We don't have to plug the radio into the wall to make it run because it runs on batteries. Just like the flashlights. See?
Sarah:
Can I use your phone? I'd better call my mom.
Mommy:
Good idea. I bet there's no power at your house either. Why don't I call and ask her if you can stay here for the night?
Caillou:
Yeah! Ask her!
Sarah:
Okay!
Storyteller:
Sarah's mom said it was okay for Sarah to stay over. After dinner Caillou and Sarah built a tent so they could pretend they were camping.
Rosie:
Caillou! Caillou!
Caillou:
Come on in, Rosie, but be careful or the tent will fall down. Mommy, can you turn off the lantern? The dark is more fun.
Rosie:
Rosie scared.
Mommy:
It's okay, sweetie.
Rosie:
Gilbert!
Sarah:
Look Caillou, it's a scary monster.
Storyteller:
Even though Caillou knew it was just Gilbert, he didn't want Sarah to talk about scary monsters.
Caillou:
No monsters!
Sarah:
Sorry Caillou, I didn't mean to scare you. Let's pretend we're explorers and we can follow Gilbert around the house.
Caillou:
Look Sarah! Gilbert is running after the light.
Sarah:
Over here, Gilbert!
Caillou:
Over here, Gilbert! Hey!
Sarah:
Aw!
Daddy:
Okay, now that the lights are on, it's time for bed.
Storyteller:
Caillou and Sarah were disappointed that the lights were on again. They were having so much fun. But Gilbert was looking a little tired out.
Daddy:
All set, kids?
Caillou:
Can we sleep in our tent? We're camping in the forest.
Daddy:
Sure, I'll go get some sleeping bags for you.
Sarah:
Look, I can make a bunny rabbit. There are lots of rabbits here in the forest. And deer and squirrels.
Caillou:
And bears too. Big bears! They're the biggest in the forest!
Storyteller:
Caillou pretended he was really in the woods with all the animals.
Caillou:
What's wrong, little bunny? Are you afraid of the dark? You can come with me. I'm Forest Ranger Caillou, and I'm not afraid of the dark! Are you scared too? Come on with us! Watch this! I can make a bunny rabbit! And a bear! Don't worry, it's not a real bear. And you shouldn't be afraid of bears, you are a bear! Look Sarah. I can make a bear. Sarah?
Daddy:
Sorry, it took so long, I had the hardest time finding... sweet dreams.

221. Shoo, Shoo Bird, Fly Away!
Storyteller:
Caillou loved playing in the dirt. He was finding all sorts of interesting things.
Caillou:
Oh! Look what I found! Can I keep it, Mommy?
Mommy:
Why don't you help me plant some tomato seeds? Good job!
Caillou:
Hi, birdie!
Mommy:
Shoo! Go away! Shoo!
Caillou:
Why did you do that?
Mommy:
If the birds eat the seeds we're planting, there won't be any vegetables!
Caillou:
I thought birds ate worms.
Mommy:
They eat worms and seeds.
Caillou:
We need a sign for the tomatoes. Can I make one?
Mommy:
Of course!
Rosie:
Oh!
Storyteller:
When Caillou saw Rosie, he thought she looked very funny.
Caillou:
Rosie, you're all white!
Rosie:
Rosie baking!
Mommy:
Oh, is that what's going on here?
Daddy:
Yup, believe it or not, this will all result in a delicious apple pie. How's the gardening coming along?
Caillou:
I planted tomato seeds and now I'm going to make a sign for the tomatoes, see?
Mommy:
Here you go, Caillou.
Caillou:
Thank you.
Storyteller:
Caillou was proud to have made the sign all by himself.
Caillou:
I'm going to put it in the garden.
Storyteller:
Caillou was in a big hurry to put his brand new sign in the garden.
Caillou:
The birds ate more seeds.
Mommy:
Let's make a scarecrow to keep the birds away.
Caillou:
What's a scarecrow?
Mommy:
Come on! I'll show you.
Storyteller:
Mommy had found some old clothes that were perfect for their scarecrow.
Caillou:
What is a scarecrow?
Mommy:
A scarecrow is a man made out of sticks, with a hat and clothes, and he stands out in the garden.
Caillou:
How will that keep the birds away?
Mommy:
If you were a bird and saw a strange person in the garden wearing all these funny clothes, wouldn't you fly away?
Caillou:
Yeah!
Mommy:
Good pick! Now we'll need some pants.
Caillou:
He needs a face.
Mommy:
Can you draw a scary face?
Caillou:
Yeah! Scary like this!
Mommy:
Yikes!
Storyteller:
Caillou thought he could be an excellent scarecrow himself.
Caillou:
Stay away birds, stay away birds! Hey! Boo! It worked! I'm a good scarecrow! Shoo! Shoo! That was a big bird! Whoa! Shoo! Shoo! That was the biggest bird of all! Wow! Look Mommy! A scary scarecrow face!
Mommy:
That's very good, Caillou. Now let's go put our scarecrow together.
Caillou:
Yeah!
Storyteller:
Caillou couldn't wait to see their finished scarecrow.
Caillou:
I can help!
Mommy:
Thank you, honey.
Rosie:
Birdies! Birdies! Birdies!
Storyteller:
Caillou couldn't believe his eyes. The scarecrow looked like a real person. But there were still a few things missing.
Mommy:
Boo!
Rosie:
Ah! Ah!
Mommy:
You know, Rosie, your pie plates could help the scarecrow make noise. I think we're almost done.
Daddy:
Mmm. And I think something else is almost done.
Caillou & Rosie:
Apple pie! Yum!
Caillou:
Look! The birds are coming back! It works! The scarecrow scared them away!
Mommy:
Good! That means our carrots and tomatoes will grow.
Caillou:
They're gonna grow really really tall, up over my head.
Daddy:
Really? That big?
Caillou:
Yup. The tomatoes will be this big and the carrots will be as big as our car.
Daddy:
We could put wheels on it and drive around in our carrot car.
Caillou:
And then we can eat it.

222. Caillou's Road Trip
Storyteller:
One Saturday morning, Daddy suggested it might be a great day for a drive.
Caillou:
Where are we going to drive to, Daddy?
Daddy:
Oh, I don't know.
Caillou:
You don't know?
Daddy:
Nope. We'll just drive and see what we can find.
Storyteller:
Caillou thought it was strange not to know where you were driving to. He wondered what they would find.
Daddy:
Here we go!
Caillou:
Yeah!
Rosie:
Yeah!
Mommy:
Who wants to play a game?
Caillou & Rosie:
I do!
Mommy:
Okay, for this game you have to look for... a red barn.
Caillou:
There's one! I see a red barn!
Rosie:
Barn!
Mommy:
Good! Now how about a white car?
Rosie:
Car! Car!
Caillou:
It's a car, Rosie, but it's black, not white. A white car!
Rosie:
White car!
Mommy:
Now let's look for... cows!
Rosie:
Cows! Moo!
Storyteller:
Caillou was first to see the cows, but he wanted to let Rosie call it out.
Caillou:
Watch for cows, Rosie.
Rosie:
Cows! Cows! Rosie see cows! Moo!
Daddy:
Way to go, sweetie. Moo!
Caillou & Rosie & Daddy:
Moo!
Storyteller:
Soon it was time to stop for lunch and fill up the car with gas.
Caillou:
Is the gas going in the car now, Daddy?
Daddy:
Yup. Those numbers show us how much gas is going in.
Caillou:
It's a lot!
Daddy:
Gas is like food for the car. The gas makes the car go.
Caillou:
We're going to have lunch and the car is having lunch too.
Daddy:
You got it!
Caillou:
Wow! Look at the truck, Daddy! Can we go and see it? Please?
Daddy:
Sure, let's go.
Storyteller:
Caillou liked big trucks. And this one was really nice and shiny! Caillou imagined what it would be like to drive a big, big truck like this one.
Caillou:
I'm Truck Driver Caillou. Hmm, that sign means that deer cross the road here. I'd better slow down. Bye bye! Duck crossing? Hmm... Wow! Hippo crossing? Excuse me, can you let me through please? Thank you! Bye bye!
Daddy:
Okay, Truck Driver Caillou. It's time to get some grub.
Caillou:
Okay!
Storyteller:
In the restaurant, Rosie sat in a high chair, but Caillou got to sit in the booth like a big boy. He could even pick out what he wanted on the menu, because it had pictures.
Caillou:
I'd like a cheese sandwich please.
Mommy:
What would you like to drink, Caillou?
Caillou:
Moo! Milk, please.
Storyteller:
After lunch they drove some more. Caillou was starting to get tired of driving.
Mommy:
Caillou. Look up ahead!
Caillou:
Is that a ferry boat? Are we going on it?
Daddy:
You bet!
Storyteller:
Caillou had never been on a ferry boat before.
Caillou:
Can I go look at the boat?
Daddy:
Not yet. We can't get out of the car until we hear the horn.
Caillou:
That's loud. One, two, three, four, five cars!
Daddy:
This is just a little ferry. There are big ferry boats that can carry a hundred cars.
Caillou:
Wow! Look Daddy! The birds are following us!
Daddy:
Those are seagulls.
Caillou:
Arr, arr, arr!!
Daddy:
Caillou, look, it's the captain.
Captain:
Welcome aboard!
Storyteller:
The ferry boat captain showed Caillou the controls of the boat. And when they got close to shore, he even let Caillou blow the horn.
Daddy:
So Caillou, did you enjoy your very first ferry boat ride?
Caillou:
Yeah! Especially the horn! Rosie slept through the whole ferry ride. That's okay, because I can tell her about it when she wakes up.
Storyteller:
Caillou thought about all the nice surprises they'd found today, the cows and the gas pumps and the big truck and the restaurant where he ordered for himself and the ferry boat with the loud, loud horn. Caillou decided he liked car trips, especially when they didn't know where they were going.

[Song]a car trip
Daddy:
Caillou, Rosie, let's get in the car. Time to go.
Caillou:
I'm so excited cause we're taking a trip.
But Daddy won't tell me where.
Daddy:
Come on everybody, put your safety belt on.
It's gonna take a little while to get there.
Caillou:
It's fun to count the cars one by one.
Daddy:
Tell me all the colours you see.
Caillou:
There's a blue car, a red truck, a motorcycle.
And look, he's waving at me.
Caillou & Daddy:
We're driving in the car, car, car.
We're going very far, far, far.
Do you know where we are, are, are?
Yes, we're driving in the car.
Caillou:
Look, Daddy, a cow!
Daddy:
A trip to the country, a trip to the city.
Caillou:
A trip to really cool places.
Daddy:
A car trip can be so much fun.
Caillou:
Meeting new friends and interesting faces.
Caillou & Daddy:
We're driving in the car, car, car.
We're going very far, far, far.
Do you know where we are, are, are?
Yes, we're driving in the car.
We're driving in the car, car, car.
We're driving in the car!

223. Caillou And the Dragon
Storyteller:
It was a special day at Caillou's playschool. A young boy named Alan was coming to visit.
Miss Martin:
Now everyone, I'd like you to meet a new friend, Alan.
Children:
Hi, Alan!
Miss Martin:
Alan has come to find out what playschool is all about. If he likes it, he may be attending.
Clementine:
Come on, Alan, we'll show you around.
Caillou:
Yeah, come on! How old are you?
Alan:
I'm five.
Caillou:
I'm only four, but I'm getting older every day.
Alan:
Me too!
Caillou:
Hmm, don't you know how to climb?
Alan:
I'm climbing!
Caillou:
Hold on here. And step up here and pull yourself up. Now swing your leg over.
Alan:
I did it!
Caillou:
Look at me! I'm swinging!
Alan:
I'm swinging too!
Caillou:
I can help!
Alan:
Whoa!
Caillou:
Hold on! Do this, Alan!
Alan:
Mom, look! I'm really swinging!
Storyteller:
Caillou wondered why Alan was having so much trouble with climbing and swinging. After all, Alan was a whole year older. Alan and his Mom brought a special treat, brownies for the whole class. Everyone enjoyed them very much.
Caillou:
Miss Martin, Alan is older than I am. Why can't he do the things I can do?
Miss Martin:
Some things are hard for him to learn and he might need a little more practice. I'm so happy to see what a big helper you're being to Alan.
Caillou:
I bet there are some things he can do even better than I can.
Miss Martin:
I'm sure you're right.
Clementine:
Let's make up a play! I'm going to the jungle to take pictures of wild animals.
Leo:
I'll be the driver! I'll drive a jeep.
Clementine:
What will you be, Caillou?
Storyteller:
Caillou wondered what Alan was going to dress up as.
Clementine:
Come on, Caillou, let's plan our play.
Storyteller:
Soon they were ready to show everyone their play.
Clementine:
I'm going to Africa to take pictures of wild jungle animals.
Leo:
I'm the driver. Here we go!
Clementine:
Wait for me!
Caillou:
I'm a wild animal! Take my picture! Roar, roar!
Alan:
I'm a dragon!
Clementine:
Dragons don't live in the jungle. They live in fairytales.
Alan:
Growl!
Caillou:
Look! This dragon is visiting the jungle for the very first time.
Clementine:
A dragon in the jungle? I'd better take a picture of him.
Alan:
Growl! Growl! Growl!
Clementine:
Hold still, dragon!
Alan:
Growl! Growl! Growl!
Miss Martin:
It's okay!
Clementine:
Hey, dragon! Look at him go!
Caillou:
I am a magic dragon tamer and I will tame the dragon.
Alan:
Growl!
Caillou:
Oh, oh! Little dragon, you can be good. You are a good little dragon. Oh, oh! Oh! You don't have to bad and scare people. Everybody wants to be your friend. Yeah! The dragon is now tame. He's going to take me for a dragon ride. Take a picture, Clementine. We're flying.
Kids:
Yeah!
Alan:
Yeah! Yahoo! We're flying!
Caillou:
Hee-haw!
Alan:
Yahoo!
Caillou:
Oh, oh! I found out what Alan is really good at. Acting!
Miss Martin:
He certainly is! And I found a couple of things you're very good at, Caillou.
Caillou:
You did?
Miss Martin:
You're a good dragon tamer but you're also an excellent friend.
Clementine:
Now we're dragons, Caillou.
Caillou:
Come here, little dragons.
Alan:
I love playschool!
Storyteller:
Alan's first day at playschool turned out to be so much fun everyone hoped to see him back again.

217. Caillou Goes Shopping
Storyteller:
Today Caillou was acting very silly. He was trying to make his little sister laugh, and he was doing a very good job.
Caillou:
Look at this, Rosie!
Rosie:
Caillou silly!
Mommy:
You're certainly acting the clown today, Caillou.
Caillou:
Hi, Sammy! Catch!
Rosie:
Caillou funny!
Caillou:
I'm going to draw you a picture, Rosie. A picture of a clown.
Mommy:
What a good idea!
Caillou:
First I need a red crayon for his red nose.
Rosie:
Red nose!
Storyteller:
But Caillou was having trouble finding the red crayon. Where could it have gone?
Caillou:
I can't find the red.
Mommy:
Let me look.
Rosie:
Caillou! Red!
Caillou:
Thanks, Rosie. Look, Mommy. Look how small it is.
Mommy:
Yes. You've almost used it all up. All of your crayons are looking rather worn down. I think you need some new crayons. Let's take a trip to the store.
Caillou:
Yeah! We can get lots and lots and lots of colours.
Rosie:
Red too?
Caillou:
Yes, Rosie. Especially red! Mommy, are we going to buy anything else at the store?
Mommy:
Yes Caillou, we need a few things. We need toilet paper, lightbulbs, new socks for Rosie.
Caillou:
And crayons!
Mommy:
And crayons. Do you think you can help me out by remembering what we need to buy?
Caillou:
I can remember! Toilet paper..., um...
Mommy:
Lightbulbs, socks for Rosie, and crayons.
Caillou:
Toilet paper, lightbulbs, socks for Rosie, crayons.
Storyteller:
Caillou thought about the list very hard so he wouldn't forget anything.
Mommy:
Sometimes if you turn a list into a song it will help you remember.
Caillou:
A song? Hmm... Toilet paper, lightbulbs, socks for Rosie, crayons!
Mommy:
That's right.
Caillou:
Toilet paper, lightbulbs, socks for Rosie, crayons!
Rosie:
Silly Caillou!
Caillou:
Toilet pa-per, lightbulbs, socks for Rosie, crayons! Toilet paper, lightbulbs, socks for Rosie, crayons!
Mommy:
Up you go! Okay, Caillou, can you remember our shopping list?
Storyteller:
Caillou thought very hard. Then he remembered the little song he made up.
Caillou:
Toilet paper, lightbulbs, socks for Rosie, crayons!
Mommy:
Very good, Caillou!
Caillou:
Toilet paper is first! Toilet paper! Look Mommy, lightbulbs! Socks for Rosie!
Rosie:
Ooh! Pretty flowers!
Mommy:
Well, I think we're all done shopping.
Caillou:
No! We still need to find crayons!
Mommy:
Oh, that's right! I'm glad you're here to remind me, Caillou!
Caillou:
Crayons! We're all done!
Storyteller:
Caillou was disappointed they'd found everything on their shopping list. He wanted to look for more things.
Caillou:
Look Mommy! It's Sarah. Hi, Sarah!
Sarah:
Hi, Caillou!
Caillou:
Are you buying crayons? I am.
Sarah:
I'm starting school this week and I need to get all these things.
Caillou:
Wow! That's a lot! Can I help you find them? I'm good at shopping!
Sarah:
Sure.
Caillou:
Can I help Sarah, Mommy?
Mommy:
All right!
Sarah:
One red pen.
Caillou:
Found one!
Sarah:
One eraser!
Caillou:
Hmm, got it!
Sarah:
One ruler!
Caillou:
There's one!
Sarah:
Five notebooks.
Caillou:
One, two, three, four, five! I've got them.
Storyteller:
Soon they had found everything on Sarah's list.
Sarah:
All done! Thanks Caillou!
Mommy:
You found all those things very quickly! Well done! Now we'd better be getting home. Rosie! Where did you put your new socks?
Rosie:
Hiding.
Caillou:
There they are! When I go to school like Sarah, I'm going to need notebooks and pencils and erasers and lots and lots of stuff.
Mommy:
That's right, Caillou. We'll go back to the store for all your school supplies when you're old enough for school.
Caillou:
Rosie! Now Rosie's being a clown, Mommy!

218. Caillou Goes Apple Picking
Kids:
Yay! Yeah! I want the front seat.
Storyteller:
Caillou felt very grown up as he boarded the school bus to head off on a big adventure. Caillou and his friends were going to pick apples at an apple orchard.
Caillou:
Look, a red leaf!
Clementine:
I have a yellow one.
Miss Martin:
You see how the leaves on the maple tree have changed colour? Apples do the same thing. When the apples change colour, it means they're ready to pick. This one's called a Macintosh apple. It's red and shiny and crunchy. This one's a Russet apple. It has a rough skin and it's not as pretty but it's very sweet. Eric's going to let you taste both apples so you can decide which one you want to pick.
Caillou:
They're both yummy but I like the red one best.
Leo:
Me too.
Kids:
Me too! I like that one!
Miss Martin:
Okay. Is everyone ready to go apple picking?
Kids:
Yeah yeah! I am!
Miss Martin:
Now Eric's going to take us on a hayride to where the apple trees are.
Caillou:
A hayride! Yeah!
Storyteller:
Caillou was excited about the hayride.
Clementine:
Look at all the trees!
Caillou:
And look at all the apples!
Miss Martin:
See the apple pickers? They use ladders to reach the apples that are high up in the trees. Okay everyone, pick a partner. You have to be very gentle when you pick an apple because if you pull too hard on it, other apples will fall, and we don't want any apples that have fallen on the ground.
Caillou:
Why not? This one looks okay.
Miss Martin:
Look closer. When apples hit the ground they become bruised and insects can get inside them.
Caillou:
Ew. The apples on the tree are better, they don't have bugs.
Miss Martin:
Right! Now everyone pick a tree and start filling your buckets.
Caillou:
This one has lots of apples.
Storyteller:
Caillou really enjoyed picking apples. It was fun!
Clementine:
We have more apples than you.
Caillou:
Ours are bigger. You wanna have a race?
Clementine:
Yeah, let's see who fills their bucket first.
Storyteller:
Caillou liked the big apples higher up on the tree but they were hard to reach.
Caillou:
Oh!
Storyteller:
When he saw the ladders, he had an idea.
Caillou:
Can I use a ladder to get the big apples, Miss Martin?
Miss Martin:
How about this one? It's more your size.
Caillou:
Your turn.
Leo:
Your turn.
Caillou:
Whoa! How am I gonna pick you? I know! Yay! Whee!
Leo:
Our bucket's full!
Clementine:
Ours is too!
Caillou:
Who won?
Miss Martin:
It's a tie. You all win!
Caillou & Leo:
We won! We won!
Emma:
We won too! We won too!
Clementine:
Look at that!
Miss Martin:
Shh! Keep very quiet.
Caillou:
They were eating apples.
Miss Martin:
Apples are a favorite treat for deer.
Caillou:
They're my favorite treat too.
Miss Martin:
Come on, I think it's time we went back.
Storyteller:
Miss Martin took them to the big red barn, where Eric showed them how to make apple juice!
Caillou:
Thank you, Eric!
Miss Martin:
You can make all kinds of different foods with apples.
Leo:
I like apple pie.
Clementine:
I like apple jelly. On toast!
Miss Martin:
How about apple muffins?
Leo & Clementine:
Mmmm!
Miss Martin:
What about you, Caillou, which do you like best?
Caillou:
I like apples just by themselves, the best.
Storyteller:
What an exciting day! Caillou couldn't wait to get home to share his apples with Mommy, Daddy and Rosie. But right now he was ready for a little nap!

219. [Song]seasons
Winter, spring, summer, fall, the seasons they go round and round.
Winter, spring, summer, fall, the seasons they go round.
I like summer when it's hot.
It's fun to swim and play a lot.
I like fall when it's Hallowe'en.
Daddy wears the silliest costumes that you've ever seen.
I like winter when it snows.
Sledding, skating. Off we go.
And I like spring when the leaves turn green.
I ride my bike and help Mommy keep our garden clean.
It doesn't matter where you live.
No matter what the weather is.
Each season has things to do, that makes it special for you.
Winter, spring, summer, fall, the seasons they go round and round.
Winter, spring, summer, fall, the seasons they go round.

220. Caillou's Hallowe'en Costume
Storyteller:
Hallowe'en was coming, and Caillou didn't know what he was going to dress up as. The bedsheet gave Caillou an idea for a costume. He thought it would be fun to be a ghost.
Caillou:
Boo!
Rosie:
Ahh!
Caillou:
Look Rosie, it's just me! See, it's a costume, for Hallowe'en. It's not supposed to be scary, it's supposed to be fun. On Hallowe'en you dress up and go out and people give you candy.
Rosie:
Rosie dress up!
Mommy:
I don't think the ghost costume is quite right for you, Rosie. Why don't we find you a different costume. How about this?
Rosie:
Yeah!
Caillou:
You look like a princess!
Rosie:
Rosie princess!
Caillou:
Daddy, can you help me find a Hallowe'en costume?
Daddy:
Sure, let's see what we've got in here. Why don't you try this on for size?
Caillou:
Huh-huh. It's way too big!
Daddy:
Don't worry. You look very grown up.
Caillou:
I'm a Daddy!
Daddy:
I have just the thing to top off your outfit!
Storyteller:
Caillou liked dressing up like daddy.
Rosie:
Caillou!
Daddy:
And Rosie can be a clown with this.
Rosie:
Rosie clown! Rosie princess!
Storyteller:
Caillou wasn't so sure he wanted to be a daddy for Hallowe'en. It was awfully hard to walk.
Caillou:
I think I need a different costume.
Daddy:
We've still got a few days to think of something. Right now it's time for bed.
Storyteller:
The days went by and still Caillou couldn't decide on a costume. Finally Hallowe'en came. Caillou helped Mommy by drawing a face for the jack o' lantern, and putting candy into little bags for his friends.
Mommy:
What's wrong, sweetie?
Caillou:
I still don't know what to be for Hallowe'en.
Mommy:
Daddy and Rosie are in the basement. Why don't you join them? Maybe you'll find something down there.
Daddy:
There must be something in here you can use for a costume!
Storyteller:
Caillou was finding all sorts of funny things. Then he felt something soft and furry.
Rosie:
Kitty!
Caillou:
Good idea, Rosie!
Rosie:
Rosie princess! Rosie clown! Rosie cat!
Caillou:
You can't be everything, Rosie!
Rosie:
Rosie princess, clown and cat!
Storyteller:
Now Caillou was really starting to worry about finding a costume to wear.
Daddy:
Come on, there's still time. We'll think of something. You know what? I think we've got all the makings of a great monster costume right here.
Caillou:
A monster!
Storyteller:
Caillou liked the sound of that.
Caillou:
Roar! Roar! Roar! Candy trees! I want to be a monster! Monsters can eat as much candies as they want!
Daddy:
Even monsters can get a tummy ache from eating too much candy. You'd better save those candies for tonight.
Mommy:
A monster! What a good idea! After lunch I'll make you a costume from that furry blue fabric.
Caillou:
Thanks Mommy!
Daddy:
Here we go, one mini monster outfit made by Mommy!
Caillou:
Wow!
Storyteller:
Caillou couldn't wait to show his friends his furry suit.
Mommy:
Look Rosie! A cowboy and a bumblebee!
Leo:
Trick or treat! Yeehaw!
Clementine:
What are you, Rosie?
Rosie:
Princess kitty clown!
Leo:
Where's Caillou? I wanna see his costume!
Daddy:
Ready, Monster Caillou?
Caillou:
Ready! Roar! It's just me.
Leo:
Nice monster costume, Caillou!
Caillou:
Thank you. Want some monster candy?
Leo:
Yes, please!
Clementine:
Thank you!
Clementine:
I'm going to get lots of candy!
Leo:
Yeehaw! Me too!
Caillou:
Me too, but I'm going to save some for tomorrow. I don't want to get a monster tummy ache! Roar!
