Dicey's Song
Grandmother's character has sharp corners and unexpected turns.
This happiness blew through her like wind, buoyed her up like water.
He couldn't see how big troubles had little begins.
Just a band of burning orange was left from the sunset, but the water caught that and transformed it, lying before Dicey like a field of gold.
How to thread a needle and tie the knot.
Worry was like the mist along the marsh, it rose up from the floors of the house.
There were good things and bad things, but there was nothing that made me regret you living here with me.
Sky hung low and grey over fields.
Alarm bells were clanging in Dicey's head.
You could get used to just about anything.
Dicey took in the information.
That Gram really belived her made Dicey's heart swell up warm.
Her heart was squeezed so tight it broke into pieces, sharp pieces that can against her lungs and throat and stomach.
Dicey felt as if she was broken into pieces and didn't know how to gather herself together again.
Becaus not saying it wasn't going to change anything.
It just has to be the way it turns out.
Because yesterday afternoon, buying presents and thinking about her family, Dicey had felt better. She hadn't forgotten, but she remembered other things as well.
She didn't know if she was sad or glad. She couldn't sort out the sadness from the gladness.
