110. A New Member of the Family
Caillou: Look, Gilbert, go away!
Mommy: Look, Rosie, this is you!
Rosie: Baby!
Mommy: Look! That was when Gilbert was a kitten. Come and see, Caillou!
Storyteller: Caillou loved looking at the photos with Mommy. He remembered when Gilbert was just a little kitten when Daddy had brought him back home at very first time.
Caillou: What is it Daddy?
Daddy: Go ahead, look, it’s a surprise!
Caillou: It’s a kitten! It’s a kitten!
Daddy: I got him from the animal shelter. They said his name is Gilbert. I think it fits him perfectly, don’t you?
Caillou: Ouch! He runs away.
Daddy: It’s ok, Caillou. I think he just frightened a little he’s still a baby and needs time to get used to us.
Mommy: Why don’t we let him look around? We’ll get ready for lunch.
Caillou: Ok, Mommy! Is Gilbert scared me?
Mommy: I don’t think so, Caillou! You two have plenty of time to get used to each other, don’t worry!
Daddy: I thought this one can make a good bed. He can sleep here in the kitchen.
Caillou: Why?
Daddy: If Gilbert is going to be a member of our family, he needs one bed. I’ll just go out for the blank and spaceman.
Mommy: Oh, somebody needs one diaper chat. I’ll be back in a second. You finish your lunch, Ok?
Caillou: Gilbert!
Storyteller: Caillou remembered to move slowly so Gilbert wouldn’t be afraid of him. Caillou was happy Gilbert didn’t run away this time. He wanted to hold him in pattern so Gilbert would know he was his friend.
Caillou: Gilbert, come back! Are you hungry? Gilbert, you are making a mess. Look what Gilbert did, Daddy.
Daddy: We cannot let Gilbert on the table, Caillou! We’ll get ready for a little bowl and put it on the floor, ok?
Mommy: You’d better take both of them and clean them up.
Caillou: Can I give Gilbert a bath?
Daddy: Well, cats don’t normally like taking a bath. But Gilbert needs one now.
Caillou: I want to help.
Daddy: Just soon I take this fleecy collar off. We wanna get wet. Here, Caillou! Why don’t you hold Gilbert? I’ll pour water at the tub.
Storyteller: Caillou was a little nervous to hold Gilbert again. He didn’t like it when Gilbert scratched his arms.
Daddy: Here, let’s be round this towel. It’ll be easy for your holding him. You see, it’s just like holding a baby.
Hold on tight, but don’t squeeze too hard.
Storyteller: Caillou love this new kitten very much.
Daddy: Ok, come on, Gilbert, time to catch you and clean up.
Caillou: Daddy, he runs away.
Storyteller: Gilbert had escaped again. Caillou didn’t understand why Gilbert was always running away from him.
Caillou: He’s not here, Daddy.
Daddy: Not here, either.
Caillou: There he is!
Daddy: Why don’t we go real slowly, Caillou? We don’t wanna scare him.
Caillou: Okay, Daddy.
Daddy: Do you see it?
Caillou: No! He’s not in his bed.
Daddy: Caillou, come here. I’ve an idea.
Caillou: Why are you taking my shoes, Daddy?
Daddy: Not shoes, just laces. Here, wave this back and front on the floor. I bet you’ll get his attention.
Storyteller: Caillou didn’t understand why he was doing this until
Daddy: I’ve never make a kitten resist the shoe is.
Caillou: He is all clean.
Daddy: He sure is.
Caillou: What is his noise, Daddy?
Daddy: He’s poring. That means he’s happy.
Storyteller: Caillou was glad he could make Gilbert happy by patting him. He liked to put Gilbert pert.
Daddy: Now we have to put back on this fleecy collar.
Caillou: Ouch!
Daddy: You’ve been sneezing awfully since Gilbert got here. I hope you aren’t allergic to him.
Caillou: What’s allergic?
Daddy: When people are allergic to the animals, they can’t be around to them because they make them sneeze too much and get itchy all the way eyes.
Storyteller: This worried Caillou very much. He didn’t want to be allergic to Gilbert.
Daddy: Come on, Caillou. Let’s go see what Mommy thinks.
Storyteller: If Caillou was allergic to cats, Mommy and Daddy would have to take Gilbert back to the animal shelter.
Mommy: No sign of haves and your eyes are watering. Do they itch, Caillou?
Caillou: No, Mommy.
Daddy: Here, Caillou, try holding him for a while.
Caillou: Ouch! I don’t want Gilbert to leave.
Mommy: I have an idea. Let’s try without the fleecy collar on.
Storyteller: Caillou was really hoping he wouldn’t sneeze. He didn’t want to be allergic to cats.
Daddy: That’s a good sign.
Mommy: Caillou, let Mommy hold Gilbert for a second. And you hold on this.
Caillou: Ouch!
Daddy: That’s it!
Storyteller: Since that was the fleecy collar that made Caillou sneeze, not Gilbert. It has been look but would stay.
Mommy: Gilbert has grown up so fast.
Storyteller: And that’s how Gilbert became a new member the family.
