1.P155. Talk About It: Why do you think people like to grow plants?
Because plants can be very useful.
2.P161. Draw Conclusions: Besides the sun, what other dangers may the seeds find?
The weather is too cold and seeds cannot find a suitble place for them to grow in.
3.P179. Draw Conclusions: What do you think will happen to the flower?
It would send out seeds.
4.P183. Think and Compare(1.) How does being very small help the tiny seed?
Birds and mice cannot see it and eat it.
(2.) Reread page 174. How does being all alone in summer help the tiny plant?
No other plant can take the sunlight and the rain from it.
(3.)What new information did you learn about plants and seeds from the story?
A big weed can kill other plants. And birds and mice can eat seeds.
What did you know already?
I know that seeds need to grow in a place where there is water, soil, air and sunlight.
(4.) Why does the story end with the flower making new seeds?
Because it is autumn again and plant's seed pods burst to let out seeds.
What do you think will happen to the new seeds?
Some of them will perish during their journey to another place.
But maybe some of them will survive and grow into another giant flower.
(5.) “Plant Power!” on pages 156–157 tells about how cotton bolls burst. Based on what you learned in
The Tiny Seed, how do you think cotton seeds are spread?
In hot weather, the cotton bolls will burst.
They are spread by the wind or by the animals.
5.P185. Connect and Compare: (1.) What are two ways that roots help a plant stay alive?
Roots help hold the plant in the ground.
It carries water and minerals to the plant.
