今年1月26日的晚上,我家小子跟我说:“妈妈,你还记不记得我跟你说的《草原小木屋》里劳拉家的那只猫？”
我说当然记得了。
小子接着就又给我讲了一些关于这只猫的故事。一开始用汉语讲，后来用英语讲。
大致是这样说的：


劳拉家的小猫出生不久，刚会走路。


One day,  when  Grace  was  playing  with  the  kitten,
the  kitten  let  out  a  scream.
Mary:  Grace, did   you  step on  it?

Grace: I  didn’t  step  on  it.

紧接着，小猫又发出一声尖叫。


Ma: Grace, don’t！
Grace: I  didn’t do  anything  to  it.
Then  the  kitten let  out  another  scream.
Laura: Grace, what  are  you  doing  to  the  kitten?
Grace: I  didn’t  do  anything to  the  kitten, I  can’t find  it.

她们就开始找小猫。劳拉在门口找到了小猫。发现她正和一只老鼠战斗。


The  mouse  was  fully  grown  as  big  as  the  kitten.
But  the  kitten  hung  on.
And  the  mouse  bit  her,  the  kitten screamed.
But  she didn’t  let  go.
The  mouse  bit  her  again. And  the  kitten  let   out  a   piercing   screech.
This  time  the  kitten  sank  her  own  little  teeth  into  the  mouse’s  neck.
The  mouse  gave a  last  yowl, and  went  limp.

Ma  fed  the  kitten  warm  milk.
Laura  found  the  softest fur  to  make  the  kitten’s  bed.
And  Grace  lifted  the  mouse  up  by  its  tail, and  threw  it  far  away.
That  night , when  Pa  heard  of  that  strange  happening,
he  said: I  never  heard  of  such  of  thing  as  a  cat  and  mouse  fight.
He  took  a  sip  of  tea  from  his  saucer…

说到这儿,小子说累了,就停下来了。


看来他反反复复地听《草原小木屋》还是有效果的，能复述故事了 。

What steps are taken to help Sidney at the sea mammal center?
  First  they  give  her  some  healthy  drink.
  Next  they  examined  her  heartbeat  and  temperature.
  Last  they  taught  her  to  eat  fish.

P213 Think and Compare
1. What happened to Sidney at the beginning, the middle, and the end of the selection?
   First  Sidney's  mother  went  to  catch  fish  and  never  come  back.
   Then  Sidney was  found  by  some  people and  taken  to  the  sea  mammal  center.
     Last  when  Sidney  is  healthy  enough , they  sent  her  back  to  her  ocean  home.

2.Reread pages 196–198. Sidney was very thin when she was rescued. Use the text to explain why.
   Because  her  mother  left  her  for 3 days , and didn't  come  back.
   So,  she had  no  milk  and  was  very  hungry.

3. How do you think the scientists felt when they said good-bye to Sidney? Explain.
    They  felt  happy  and  sad.
    They  were  sad,  because  they  would  not  see  Sidney  again.
    They  were  happy, because Sidney  was  returned  to  her  home.

4. Why do you think the scientists brought Sidney back to the ocean after she got healthy?
    First  the  ocean  is  her  home.
    Next  she  should  meet  other  seals.
    Last  a  wild  animal  needs  freedom.

5. How is Sidney like the whale in “A Whale Is Saved” on pages 190–191?
    First  they  were  both  in  trouble.  the  whale  was  stuck  on  the  beach
    and  Sidney  lost  her  mother.

    Second  they  were  both rescued  in  almost  the  same  way.

    Third  they  were  both  checked  by  an  animal  scientist. The  scientists  helped  the
    animals  keep  healthy  and  alive.

    Last  they  were  both  returned  to  the ocean  after  they  were  healthy.

P215  Connect and Compare
1. What things are compared in the poem?
    The  dog's fur  is  compared  in  the  poem.

2. Think about how the scientists cared for Sidney in A Harbor Seal Pup Grows Up.
How is caring for a seal pup like caring for a puppy or a dog? How is it different?
     They are  both  mammals  and  they  drink  their  mothers'  milk.  
  
     First  the  different  is  a  dog  can  be  a  pet  but  a  seal  pup  can't.
     Second  seals  eat  fish  and  dogs  eat  bones  or  meat.
     Third  seals  live  in  the  ocean, and  dogs  live  on land.
     Fourth  seals  have  flippers  and  dogs  haven't.
     Fifth   dog's  fur  is  much  longer  than  seal' s   fur.
     Sixth  seals  move  by  scooting  in  the  water, ang  dogs  move  by  running  fast on the  ground.
     Seventh  you  can  take  a  dog  for  a  walk, but  you  couldn't  take  a  seal.

把他回答的几个问题也贴一下：

   Use the words first, next, and last.
   First  you  meet   an  admissions  worker.
   Then  you'll  meet   a  nurse.
   After  you  meet  the  nurse,  you  will  see  an  orderly  or  nurse's  aide.
   And  finally  you  see  the  doctor.

2. Why does the hospital need an  admissions worker?
   Because  they  have  to  keep  track  of  the  people  who  come  to  the  emergency  room.

3. Have you ever gone to the hospital or the emergency room? If yes, tell about it.
   If no, tell  about a time you  went to the doctor.
   Yes, I  have.
   Once  I  was  very  sick, and  my  mother  took  me  to  the  emergency  room.
   There  were  many  people  there. So  we  have  to  wait  a  long  time.
   But  finally  it  was  my  turn  to  see  the  doctor.
   First  the  doctor  took  my  temperature,  asked  if  I  felt  well.
   Next  he  measured  my  blood  pressure.
   Last  he  told  my  mother  that  I  need  to  rest  for  a  week.
   Then  we  went  home.

4. How are paramedics similar to doctors? How are they different?
    The  same  thing  is  that  they all  help  people.
    The  different  thing  is  a  doctor  works  at  the  hospital,
    a  paramedic  drives  an  ambulance.
    And  a  paramedic  does  not  get  as  much  money  as  a  doctor.

不知道你家孩子多大。如果是学龄前儿童，练练字帖也可以。

我家小子是左撇子，一开始写字很难看。
6岁时他上了一个书法班，学写汉字。
从那以后，汉字写得好了，英文字写得也不错了。
不过这个斜体字，还是在去年十一才学会。
之前教过他怎么写斜体字，但他总说不会写。
去年十一，我写了一些单词，叫他抄写。
他看见我写的斜体字，很是羡慕，自己也试着去写斜体字了

去年12月18日,我给小子讲了《哈里波特》作者的一些情况，小子听了说：
“人生中其实隐藏着很多的机会。可是有些人就不知道去抓住它、利用它。
最后后悔也来不及了。”
看来平时他看书，还是有所积累的。


这个假期，小子背了50多首唐诗了，不仅能背，还会默写，也知道意思。
我准备从这个假期开始，加强他的语文学习。毕竟一年以后就要小升初了。
像我们家这样不在外面上辅导班的孩子，屈指可数。我们家得早作打算了 。


这几天小子还在重听《哈里波特》第五部。晚上睡觉时则听《小乌龟学美语》。

这几天也开始复习NCE1。从68课开始复习。希望假期结束前能复习完。
