读儒勒*凡尔纳《八十天环游地球》1最近，我读了一本世界名著《八十天环游地球》。我读这本书觉得很滑稽，最滑稽的一个人是路路通。路路通遇到坏事就会很生气，但是他的主人福克先生遇到坏事，他连皱眉头都不皱一下。他有时很冷漠。在这本书里面，有一篇的标题是“路路通的鼻子变长”，我看了觉得很滑稽，一直想知道他的鼻子是怎么变长的。原来，路路通的鼻子变长，是用杂技里面装上鼻子当小丑的办法来变长的。类似这些有趣的地方很多，而且都是关于路路通的，所以我才说他很滑稽。2但这本书的主人公是福克先生，他年纪大约四十岁，相貌端庄清秀，身材高大，有点发胖，风度翩翩；头发和胡须都是金褐色的，皮肤白净，牙齿整齐美观。他是一个琢磨不透的人。他不喜欢与人交往，在我看来，他是一个很古怪的人，也很要强。 在我想来，八十天环游地球是不可能的，但是他做到了。他克服了无数自然和人为的障碍，终于在八十天内环游地球一周。他的旅程是这么安排的：伦敦至苏伊士途经悉尼山与布林迪西（火车、船）7天，苏伊士至孟买（船）13天，孟买至加尔各答（火车）3天，加尔各答至中国香港（船）13天，香港至日本横滨（船）6天，横滨至旧金山（船）22天，旧金山至纽约（火车）7天，纽约至伦敦（船、火车）9天，总计80天。他在旅途中遇到很多惊险又刺激的东西，几乎有几次甚至连命都保不住了。就在最关键的时候，福克先生总是表现得冷静而又果断，每次都能脱离危险而顺利地前进。他是那么的聪明而又自信。他终于成功了。我看完后就想，等长大了，也去环游地球，也许还用不了八十天。

Once he did it in eighty days, unheard of in the nineteenth century. One reason was that he wrote about these wonderful things in such exact detail. Learned men would argue with him. Experts in mathematics would spend weeks checking his figures. The author refused. Instead, he had Fogg charter a ship. As the world held its breath. They received news flashes on televisions, worked in giant skyscrapers, and rode to work on highways much like the ones we ride today.
