Well the first couple of reviews were not great, but I must come at this review through the eyes of a seven year-old, as I ordered this book purely for my daughter as she is a fan of "Horrible Histories" and I wanted her to try something else in that style. She tells me that she "liked the dirty facts and found the jokes very funny". She assures me that "the pictures had lots of detail in them and this is now my favourite history book". I asked her what she particularly remembered and she said "I learned how the people were in olden days and how bad they were sometimes". She has picked this up and put it down a number of times, which makes it perfect for dipping into and she is clearly attracted by the pictures. Yes I accept the puns are over-used. Yes I accept it may be lacking in scientific factual detail. Yes I accept the writing style and grammar is awkward in places, but... if it has sparked some interest and begun to fire the imagination of a seven year old then surely that's no bad thing. Oh and if a publisher is reading this, my daughter says she wants one about "the Victorians" next!
