Scuffy the Tugboat Scuffy the Tugboat is a children's book written by Gertrude Crampton and illustrated by Tibor Gergely. The book was first published in 1946 as part of the Little Golden Books series. Scuffy is a toy tugboat who wishes for "bigger things" than sailing in the bathtub. The Man with the Polkadot Tie (who owns a toy store) and his son take Scuffy to a small brook in a pasture, and soon the current carries him away. At first Scuffy is pleased. The brook grows into a stream which turns into a small river and finally a larger river. Scuffy is overwhelmed by the sheer size of things around him. As he is just about to sail off into the endless ocean, he is rescued by the man and his boy and returned to the bathtub where Scuffy is now content to remain. As of 2001, Scuffy the Tugboat was the eighth bestselling children's book of all time. 小小玩具红拖船,有个大大的梦想,他不要在小小的澡盆内游走,他要到大大的海里去遨游。他的梦想能实现吗? 见过旧版的书还附带一张唱碟,可惜Amazon上的介绍没提到书是否附带音频 Age Range: 3 - 7 years Hardcover: 24 pages Publisher: Golden Books; First Edition edition Language: English ISBN-10: 0307020460 ISBN-13: 978-0307020468 Amazon Review: Better than academia, February 7, 2011 By Steve Wyzard Format:Hardcover If the world's cynical intellectuals find this book threatening and offensive, it's only because they can't stop admiring themselves in the mirror or updating their resumes long enough to "get it". What we're supposed to take from reading Scuffy the Tugboat is NOT "play it safe - don't follow your dreams", but "maybe, just maybe your dreams aren't all they're cracked up to be". Who among us has never pursued something in life, only to realize, "hey, wait a minute, this wasn't what I thought it would be" or "it wasn't supposed to work out like this"? Dreams (to say nothing of the "it's-all-about-me" movement) are transitory and ephemeral. I know The Perfect among us live in denial when it comes to regrets, but for the rest of us, this book reminds us that it's never too late to turn back or change your mind. As far as "empowerment" goes, what could be more empowering than being reunited with those who really love you? I've learned more from Scuffy than I did while receiving a college education. That children can understand what it's all about only increases my admiration. Highest of all possible recommendations!
