The Giver
Chapter One:
Squinting toward the sky, he had seen the sleek jet, almost a blur at in high speed, go past, and a second later heard the blast of sound that followed.(This sentence made me know why Jonas what frightened means at the beginning.)
Then one more time, a moment later, from the opposite direction, the same plane. (Although this sentence is simple, it showed the sense of the tragedy.)
The sense of his own community silent, waiting, had made his stomach chum.(The adjectives and verbs made the sentence lively.)
Now, thinking about the feeling of fear as he pedaled home along the river path, he remembered that moment of palpable, stomach-sinking terror when the aircraft had streaked above. It was not what he was feeling now with December approaching. He searched for the right word to describe his own feeling. (This paragraph shows that the writer has already ended the description of the reason of Jonas’s frighten, and he is going to start another stay.)
Asher, who talked too fast and mixed things up, scrambling words and phrases until they were barely recognizable and often very funny.(This shows that Asher is a funny, friendly and easygoing person.)
Lily's feelings were always straightforward, fairly simple, usually easy to resolve.(This sentence tells us the character of Lily.)
Mother murmured sympathetically. Jonas and Lily both nodded sympathetically as well.(These two sentences show that the family is really kind and full of love in their hearts.)
"Yes," she said, "this talk will be a private one with Jonas." (This lets me know that the next chapter will be about a conversation Jonas’s ceremony of twelve.)
