Choose a kid-friendly museum. Look in the Sources and Citations section of this article for some websites that give you a few good museums to go to. If you don't find what you're looking for in the websites listed in the Sources and Citations, then simply Google, 'kid-friendly museums' to find some good museums to take your kids to. When choosing a museum, ask these questions:- Are there interactive exhibits/activities?
- Are there fun displays to spark the child's interest and/or encourage then to read the display?
- Is my child interested in the topic that the museum is teaching?
- Are the staff friendly?
- Will the staff involve my child in the activities?
- Is the information being given to my child interesting enough?
- Are there interactive shows to help the child learn more?

Research about the topic before you go to the museum. Look for kid-friendly articles online about the subject and when you go to the library take home some kid-friendly books about this topic as well. Then read the texts to your child with expression and interest in your voice, ask them questions about the text, and maybe get them to read some if they want to do so and are able to.

Tell your child about the museum. If you've gone there before when you were a child or with a different child, then tell them the exciting parts about the visit and encourage them to get excited as well. If you haven't been there before, think about the reviews you've read about the museum and maybe what friends have told you about it. Then try to get your child hyped up about the visit using the information you have from those sources. Another thing to try whether you've been to the museum or not, is to make up fun stories about the museum. For example, if it's a dinosaur museum, make up a story about the dinosaur bones becoming real dinosaurs and letting people ride on their backs and having fun with the people

Encourage your child to ask questions about the topic. IF they are to shy to ask the museum guide a question, then get them to ask you the question and then you ask the guide the question for your child.

Interact with your child in the museum. Ask them questions and encourage comments, questions, and connections to the topic. Praise them for paying attention and interacting with the information that the museum has to offer.

Bring a camera. If your child is old enough to handle a camera (and not break it), buy them an inexpensive one, preferably a, 'Kid's First Camera' type of camera. If your child isn't old enough to use a camera, take pictures and videos of your own with the camera and show them the picture(s)/video(s) that you took.
