新科学课的准备过程:
一直想找一位心目中理想的科学老师!
有些事情,是可遇而不可求的!
1. 招聘,
2. 投简历
其中一份简历吸引了我:
Hello,
I am a retired elementary school teacher with 34 years experience teaching all subjects grades 3 through 6. I have also presented workshops at the NSTA (National Science Teachers Association). Could you please send more information concerning this teaching opportunity? I have also been to China but do not speak the language.
3. 联系,约在Skype上见面。
挺喜欢这个活跃的喜欢做实验,以及跟我一样喜欢做PPT喜欢熬夜的小老太太。
然后。。。。。。
做试教。。。。。。
然后。。。。。。
进入课程的设计阶段。
下面是Angela老太太的看过我提供的加州科学一年级全套材料的第一次反馈:
Hi Dawn,
I looked through the materials and like what I see. Now it's a matter of deciding which ones to use and how to coordinate the materials to get the best benefit from their use. At some point we should talk logistically. How do the children have access to the text, readers, activity books, and so on. Will I be able to add comments directly to the text and use the tools that I have already learned? Will each lesson take an hour? I assume I will be starting with the Grade 1 curriculum. I should be able to set up experiments in advance so the children will see the results of some of the experiments discussed in the activities.
Let me know when it would be a good time to talk. Thanks for all your help.
Fondly,
Angela (it's time for me to get to bed!)
我的回复:
Dear Angela,
Each class will be 60 minutes, 6 student utmost in a group. During the summer, July and August, the students can attend the class twice in a week.
Currently we have one Gr2 science class. The teacher uses the California Science text book, and sometimes Science Readers. He doesn't use Activity Lab Book, Interactive Text, and Reading and Writing in Science.
I hope you can set up your own lesson plans, and do whatever you think the best.
All the students can have a full set of the materials I gave you.
Since this is an online class and the students are non-native English speakers, there must be something different from those you taught before.
Before we know that, probably we need to do a lot changes, adjustment, correction on the way we are doing.
Let me know what you think.
Best,
Dawn
然后:
Hi Dawn,
Let me look at the materials again. I think I prefer the Interactive text because it provided comprehension activities along the way and introduces vocabulary. Let me look at the Text again. I could always make a power point of the vocabulary. I also liked the Science Readers. I would set up my own activities to demonstrate the concepts. I did like the Read and Write student booklet with its writing activities (if you want to incorporate writing into the lessons.). The topics in Grade Two are a bit more hands on activities (like the magnets). However, I can make the Grade One more interesting with a power point and some demonstrations.
I'll look at the materials again today. When would you want to start the lessons? I also need to know how to pull up the text on screen (maybe one more conference with you to go over the details).
I do like the age level of Angela and Andy. They were very excited learners. This is always fun to teach. I am flexible and can make changes along the way as I get to know the students better.
I will get back to you later today with more thoughts.
Thank you for all your help.
Fondly,
Angela
其中这两点我非常喜欢:
“I think I prefer the Interactive text because it provided comprehension activities along the way and introduces vocabulary. ”
在阅读当中与书互动、主动地去思考,是我一直希望孩子们做的事情。
“I did like the Read and Write student booklet with its writing activities (if you want to incorporate writing into the lessons.). ”
是的,把阅读与写作的训练植入到科学课中其实对我们的通过网络课堂学习的EFL学生的收益可能会来得更实在些。
Angela老太的思考当中已经有很多闪光点了。
非常期待她的科学课!
