女儿和我所看到的“情人节”

女儿八岁在美国读书的时候，依循传统，她和全班同学一样，为班上的同学、老师每人准备一份礼物。
我们在Walgreen买来了卡片，巧克力，女儿在每张卡片上写上同学老师的名字和祝福感谢的话语，表达友好。
然后把一颗巧克力别在卡片上。
我们在美国是外国人，对当地风俗传统的了解有限，因此都是看别人怎么做，然后依葫芦画葫芦。
共有二十五份。不算女儿自己，全班二十四个同学，一位老师。
那几天，全校的孩子都在忙这件事。
芝加哥花在五月才会开，树也要晚些时候才吐绿。
但孩子们在St. Valentine's Day为朋友们忙碌，让寒冷的空气多了丝丝春天气息。

这是女儿当时准备的礼物：






这个Arshead，好像是当时女儿在班上最好的朋友，一个印度女孩，长得很漂亮，比女儿大一岁。
女儿把她当姐姐来看的。
现在女儿最贴心的朋友是一个移民加拿大的韩国女孩子，她应该不会忘记在这个圣瓦伦丁节给她表达一份心意吧！

今年的St. Valentine's Day，我也打算给一些朋友送礼物。
他们有男有女，有老有少，是多年的好友，在这个节日里，用这些节日的语言，向这些good old friends表达一下心意。
St. Valentine's Day，是向你爱的人表达心意的节日，可以是家人、朋友、同学、同事，不仅仅是情人。

St. Valentine's Day作为一个泊来品，每个文化区域都会选取了其中某些个元素来重点发挥。
象我们现在把St. Valentine's Day称为情人节、Lovers' Day，为这本来可以更爽朗开放的日子添上一种暧昧的色彩，这也是我们目前这个文化个性所造就的。

今天在网上给老公买了份礼物
本来还看了几个想买来送给好朋友，但是很犹豫在情人节这个日子送朋友有点奇怪吧
所以就算了，打算找个什么别的日子再说

哈哈，我奥再去搜搜，赶快下单，给好朋友，老爹老妈都表达下心意好了

向我们的美国老师讨要了一个免费的美国文化课。
请她介绍这个Valentine's Day的事情。

老师说：

Happy Valentine's Day is a phrase said much like "Happy New Year!"  It is said to all of your friends, family, and yes, to your sweetheart!  :-)  Children in the elementary schools give out Happy Valentine's Day cards to all their classmates and generally also bring cookies or candy to give out.  Some children bring flowers or candy to their teachers, but not all do.  On Tuesday, I will greet nearly everyone in the halls at our college with the words "Happy Valentine's Day!"  I may not even know them, but it would not be inappropriate to wish even a clerk at the store this greeting.  I would not feel uncomfortable wishing even a stranger this greeting.
Happy Valentine's Day 这个说法就跟Happy New Year一亲。可以对所有你的朋友、家人说，当然也可以对你的心上人说。小学生会在这一天给同班同学送卡片，也会带来cookies和糖果。一些孩子还会带花和糖给他们的老师，但并不是所有有都这样做。
在星期一，我会对几乎所有人说“Happy Valentine's Day ！”　可能我并不认识他们，但就算我对杂货店里的店员说一句Happy Valentine's Day ，那也不会有什么不合适。
对陌生人送上这样的问题，我也不会觉得别扭。

Gifts can be given to your special friends on this day. Just last night, I received some heart-shaped candles and a heart-shaped box of chocolates from a former student who is now a teacher.   She said "Happy Early Valentine's Day."  
礼物是可以送给你特殊的朋友的，就在昨天晚上，我收到了一个我以前的学生送给我的一些心形的蜡烛和一个心型盒子装的巧克力，那学生现在已经是老师了。
她对我说：“Happy Valentine's Day ！”

With all this in mind, it is also especially a day for lovers and sweethearts.  A man is not considered to be a loving boyfriend, fiance, or husband if he does not give his sweetheart flowers, candy, jewelry, or take her to a fine restaurant.  If a man forgets this special day - he is in trouble!  (Hee hee) - If he forgets, his sweetheart will not feel treasured and will have her feelings hurt - - - and so most men do special things for their  girl on this day.   The Valentine's Day cards sent by lovers on this day are more intimate and usually contain hand-written words of love.  
除此外，这对情人、恋人们是一个特殊的日子。一人男人，如果他不在这天送给他心爱的人鲜花、糖果、珠宝，或是带她去一个高尚的餐厅，他就不会被认为是一个深爱着她的男朋友、未婚夫，或是丈夫。如果一个男人忘记了这一天，他就有麻烦了！她的心上人不会认为她是被珍惜的，甚至会感到感情上的伤害。因此，大多数男人会在这特殊的一天为他的女伴做一些特别的事情。

Girls also give gifts to their sweetheart, but it is a day more associaed with the man giving to the woman.   

Thus to sum this up,  the greeting "Happy Valentine's Day" is for all.  Small tokens of friendship can be given to special friends, but larger and more intimate gifts are given by lovers.  (Most women expect something intimate from their man on this day.)
