我推荐一本There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.
这本书依据经典儿歌There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly改编,叙述一个老婆婆吞了一只苍蝇后,又吞下蜘蛛去抓掉那一只苍蝇,然后又吞了一只小鸟来抓蜘蛛……等,最后她一共吃了七种动物,那她为什么要吞苍蝇呢?I dong't know why she swallowed the fly...故事开始念有点饶舌,熟了之后是朗朗上口啊。
有很多画家画过这个故事,我买的是以下这个版本
Retold by
Author & Illustrator: Simms Taback
Citation: Taback, S. (1997). There was an old lady who swallowed a fly. New York, NY.: Viking Children's Books.
ISBN: 0-329-02921-5
Plot Summary: There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly, follows a hysterical story line in which a crazed looking old lady swallows a series of insects and animals. Beginning with her swallowing a fly, there is a notion that "perhaps she'll die!" From there she swallows a spider to catch the fly, then a bird to catch the spider, and so on. Throughout the book there are spectating animals that will later be devoured by her as well that make comments about her "food" choices and her fate. Their comments are rhyming and add a bit more humor to the overall story. The book shows the lady's ever-expanding stomach as she swallows more and more animals After she swallows a fly, a spider, a bird, a cat, a dog, and a cow, the story concludes with her swallowing of a horse. When she swallows the horse he story comes to it's halt suggesting that, "she died of course!." After the story-line is complete with her decease there is a final page offering the moral to the story..."never swallow a horse!"
Critical Analysis:
Simms Taback has created a cleverly illustrated version of the old folk tale, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly. The classic folk tale that has graced pre-schools and playgrounds for years, is captured by Taback in a vibrant colorful picture book with a di-cut hole cut out throughout its pages that allows readers to see inside her belly. The old lady character he has created looks wacky to the point there is no surprise she would swallow a fly and other animals. The words stay true to the original tale and there are some added silly notes appearing in speech bubbles from spectating animals that will eventually join the crowd in the lady’s ever-expanding stomach. The illustrations are built with torn colored paper set on a black background. Readers will find extra bits of quirkiness in humorous details such as multiple headlines in the newspaper. Some of these headlines include: Old Lady Swallows Fly, Cat Attacked...Culprit Identified, Lady Wolfs Down Dog, Whole Cow Devoured, and Lady Dines on Horse. Other silly add-ins include a recipe card for Spider Soup and a letter addressed to Ms. Old Lady, on Swallowlark Lane. This version of this silly folk tale is a must read, must see for readers interested in a funny timeless tale!
