《The Alchemist》是巴西著名作家Paulo Coelho的经典寓言式小说。小说运用富含哲理和诗意的语言讲述了牧羊少年圣地亚哥追寻宝藏的奇幻冒险故事，极具启发性和励志意义。小说自1988年出版后，便风靡全球，畅销160多个国家，登上20多个国家畅销榜第1名，荣获33项国际大奖，已经被翻译成68种语言，破了《吉尼斯世界纪录》（2009版）出版语种最多的书，是当今在世作家作品中被翻译最多的小说。全球销量超过6500万册，是历史上最畅销的葡萄牙语小说。这部小说被誉为20世纪最重要的文学现象之一。
ps：我个人认为大陆关于书名的翻译——《牧羊少年奇幻之旅》，显得过于口水化，无法凸显出本书的实质内涵（希望专业人士不要喷我，水平有限）。我认为本书所说的“alchemist”并不是狭义上的“点石成金”的炼金术士，而应该是懂得与自然交流、已获知自己的所谓“天命”的人。
