疯狂的小豆子 你家的英文能力简直太超强了。 发表于 昨天 21:19
其实他没啥强的,不过是牺牲了中文之后,英语显得好一些罢了,但涉及深层次的理解和分析性的写作,深度还是不够的。从小两种语言,这方面的问题不可能不突出,无非轻重权衡而已。
想起儿子的外教写给我的信,对ESL孩子学英语还是很有用的,贴在这里:
In my teaching experience I have emphasized how important reading is as far as learning English is concerned. However, there is a further, very important reason why ESL students should try to develop their reading skills: Educational researchers have found that there is a strong correlation between reading and academic success. In other words, a student who is a good reader is more likely to do well in school and pass exams than a student who is a weak reader.
Good readers can understand the individual sentences and the organizational structure of a piece of writing. They can comprehend ideas, follow arguments, and detect implications. They know most of the words in the text already, but they can also determine the meaning of many of the unfamiliar words from the context - failing this, they can use their dictionary effectively to do so. In summary, good readers can extract from the writing what is important for the particular task they are employed in. And they can do it quickly! I always encourage my students to keep a dictionary close by.
Educational researchers have also found a strong correlation between reading and vocabulary knowledge. In other words, students who have a large vocabulary are usually good readers. This is not very surprising, since the best way to acquire a large vocabulary is to read extensively, and if they read extensively they are likely to be or become a good reader!
A, The single most effective thing F can do at home is to read regularly. If this is done over a long period, it will benefit him in various ways: it will obviously develop his general ability to understand what he reads, but it will also increase his vocabulary and provide models of grammar and sentence structure that will help him in his own writing. Instead of encouraging him to read the Newbery books, which he does not want to do, let him read books both non-fiction and fiction that appeal to him. Otherwise, his enjoyment in reading will decrease.
F can develop listening skills at home by borrowing audio cassettes and video cassettes from the main school and ESL libraries. I always encourage my students to give a summary of the main events of the story they read at our lessons.
As for grammar and vocabulary: in my opinion these are best learned in the contexts of reading or listening. I always include a vocabulary list of the story they read at our lesson along with discussion questions. This helps to improve their thought process.
A, I hope this helps you to understand how you can best support F in his progress to learn English.
