The Giver book review
The book is about a community, with no charactics at all,and there is no fear,no pain and no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. The protagonist of the story, Jonas, was singled out to receive special training from the giver on the ceremony for the twelves. Therefore he alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. He began to see colors, he began to experience various aspects of life. Ultimately when he nearly received all memories, the love to his comminity turns into hatred, and he decides to escape from the community which shows no energy at all and in which even feeling are forbidden.
Many of us may say occationally, that life may be a lot better if it contains only the bright side of it---but think! What may happen if life only consists of the bright side , with no fear and no pain , and there won't be any differences between our life and Jonas's.
Feel and enjoy the feeling in our life, this is the first impression that pops into my mind after I finished reading ,something often neglected,it also makes me think.
In fact, when I entered the first few chapetrs,a feeling of jealousy and unfair caught my mind, they live so peacefully, with no pain at all,it looks like a dreamland for me.but as the reading went on, I found myself absolutely wrong, with a society so unified and music can't be heard and colors can't be seen,it can't be called a life at all. They lose choice, family, their own children, and the respect of a real life---weekly newborns, elders with no workforce, anyone who doubts about the society ... The fate awaits them is to be released!
Somehow, just to some aspect, the community is similiar to ours. Unification also occurs much too often. Take me as an example, i'm an ordinary student in an ordinary school, with the ninth grade drawing closer, more and more tests and exercises came thundering nearer and thus drove away all the fun. We have to wear uniforms and disobey may lead to severe punishment and the key to the exercises is always exclusive. With the development of the society, our world would undoubtedly become one like 'the Community',(and that may be the reason that this book is considered not good for children to read and thus on the banned list in many american schools.)
So let's cherish our deficient world and treasure what we've got.
