Granpuff
小老头
One winter′s night when the cold wind blew,the engines found it hard to sleep。
“What we need,”suggested Toby, “Is to listen to a story.”
“A mysterious story ,”said Percy.
“But ,”added Duck , “it must have a happy ending.”
“Driver told me a story,”said Thomas.
So everyone listened.
冬天夜里,冷风呼呼的吹,小火车们都睡不着。托比建议着,朋友们,我们需要床边故事哦!“没错!”培西附和道,“神奇有趣的故事!”“但是!”达克跟着说,“它必须是快乐结局!”“驾驶说过一个故事。”汤玛仕说,“大家注意听哦!”

“Once upon a time ,”began Thomas.“There were three little engines who lived in their own little shed on their own little railway.Their names were Duke , Stuart and Falcon.Duke was the oldest and named after His Grace the Duke of Sodor.”He was proud of this and loved to keep the little engines in order.
Whenever they did anything that Duke thought wrong ,he would say ,“That would never suit His Grace!”

“You impertinent scallywags ,”Duke would say .
“Whatever are you engines coming to .”
“Never mind Granpuff .We′re only young once .”
“Well you′d better mind ,unless you want to end up like Smudger .”
其他小火车来来去去,但是公爵永远都在。史都华和福康都叫他小老头,他们很喜欢他但是他们很讨厌听公爵碎碎念的。他们会嘲笑他,说着……小火车来,小火车去,小老头永远不会走。
公爵会说,你们两个小顽皮鬼,你们说这话什么意思啊!
别生气,小老头,开开玩笑而已。
最好小心一点,不然会跟那个史麦格他样

Until one day ,Manager said he was going to make him useful at last .
Smudger stopped laughing then .”
“Why ? w-w-what did he do ?”
“噢,小老头,他怎么了?”
“史麦格,”公爵说,“就是太爱炫耀了。他乱开火车,所以常常出轨 ……我警告他要小心点,但他就是不听!”
“听着,公爵,没有什么号担心的啦!”
“大家都会,”公爵说,“但是史麦格一直笑我。”
直到有一天,经理说他要让史麦格派用场。史麦格才停止笑声
“为什么?他做了什么?”

After that ,Stuart and Falcon became Really Useful engines and all three were happy together for many years .
Then hard times came .The mines in the hills closed and the railway was closed too. People came to buy the engines ,“We′ll take Stuart and Falcon .”
No-one wanted Duke .They thought him too old .
“Cheer up Granpuff ,”called Stuart .“We′ll find you a nice railway and then you can come and keep us in order .”
They tried to be brave and cheerful, but no-one really thought their dreams would come true .
“他把他变成了发电机,他还在我们机房后面,永远都动不了。”
后来呢,史都华跟福康就变得很有用的小火车,他们快乐的一起工作了好多年。可是好景不长,山上的矿场关闭了,铁路也跟着封起来。有人来机房买火车,“我们要买史都华和福康。”没有人要买公爵,他们觉得他太老。
“别难过,小老头,”史都华叫着,“我们会帮你解决,这样你就可以继续管理我们了。”
他们试着逗公爵开心点,可是他们知道这个梦想很难实现。

冬天的融雪冲刷山坡土壤,花草树木满山乱长,机房都被植物给覆盖住了,没有人知道小火车在里面睡觉。培西埋怨着,这不是个快乐结局,汤玛仕睡眼惺忪地说,哎呦,我好困哦,快乐结局下回再说好了!
