六月二十三日上午，大雨瓢泼，我们从重庆汽车北站出发，到达长寿区时，惊闻余泽忠已于昨日下午在家中病逝了。余泽忠的战友把我们带到余泽忠的灵堂拜祭，面对着余泽忠的遗像，听着哀乐，我们心里十分难受，后悔晚到一天，没能见上老山英雄最后一面，原定的采访计划改为拍摄英雄的葬礼。余泽忠灵堂设在马路旁边，由一些旧铁管和塑料布搭起，非常简陋。中间放着余泽忠的棺木，两边摆着亲友和老山战友送的花圈。余泽忠的家人一边哭泣，一边烧着纸钱，并按照当地风俗，请了几个老师傅在灵堂做法事。余泽忠复员后的工厂效益不好，厂里以7000多元钱买断了余泽忠20多年的工龄。余泽忠下岗后去昆明打工。结果发现自己得了肝硬化，因此只有回家看病。他的父母是当地农民，家里已经没有土地，十分贫穷。余泽忠的妻子没有工作，一直以打扫清洁，擦皮鞋，捡矿渣养家。工厂的矿渣倾倒在江边，一般一天可以捡个20斤左右，每斤1角5分钱。在余泽忠患病的二年多时间，妻子一直照顾着丈夫治病。余泽忠的病情越来越严土重，去医院治疗需要巨额的医疗费用。得知余泽忠的病情后，战友们纷纷捐款为他治疗，并想办法通过媒体和网络，为余泽忠募捐以解决余的巨额医药费用。在余泽忠病重期间，社会上的好心人纷纷伸出援助之手，但医药费对于这样一个家庭来说如巨山压顶，在余泽忠病逝后，家里还欠4万多元钱的医药费。余的大女儿今年16岁，已辍学3年，先在重庆做保姆，现在在一位老中医那里做事，管吃住，每月300块钱。小儿子6岁，已没钱上学。如今整个丧事由战友筹钱，办下来还欠2000多块钱费用。余泽忠的家在长寿二中旁的老巷里租的的房子，每月房租50元。家中非常破旧，床上连像样点的被子都没有。除了几盏灯，唯一的电器就是给药品保温的冰箱，因为没有钱住院，余泽忠只有卧病在家治疗。屋顶瓦片破了好几处，漏着雨。余泽忠六岁的儿子指着一大堆他爸爸发黄的战地照片和军功章给我们看。6月24日，英雄的遗体在火葬场举行了一个简单的火化，和其他一些无钱土葬的死者一样，他的骨灰被安葬在当地山谷石壁上凿开的小石洞里。

余生前交代过妻子三件事：


一.一定要供两个孩子读书上学。


二.希望妻子能像女儿一样对待他的父母。


三.他对不起妻子，没有给她过上好日子。

2004年6月22日下午3点20分，余泽忠英雄在他那不到30平米50元月租的破屋里离开了他留恋的家人。他抛下了年老的父母，6岁的儿子，16岁的女儿和要面对债务，承受全部家庭重担的妻子。。。。这不该是一个为国尽忠的英雄的结局。 他，是英雄。当之无愧的英雄！他走完了42岁的人生历程。 他，直到最后也没有向政府伸手要过一分钱。 他，老山英雄！ 为国尽忠，劳疾离世，等待他家庭的是。6岁的儿子没有钱上学。16岁的女儿已经辍学3年。贤惠的妻子要*背捡1毛5分钱一斤的矿渣维持家庭

小孩子不明白失去亲人的悲伤。这个葬礼他一直在摆弄姐姐5块钱买给他的玩具车。这悲伤的场面本不应该属于一个6岁的孩子

小金宏很崇拜他的爸爸。总是给来吊唁的人介绍，“看我爸爸，我爸爸有好多军功章。。。。”

每次有人来，小金宏都要给人看爸爸的军功章和战场上的照片。孩子自豪的表情很像他战场上的父亲。当我问他爸爸在哪里时，他不经意的说：“爸爸死了。。。。”，其实他不知道死意味着什么
