Llama Llama Red Pajama, written by Anna Dewdney, is an extremely adorable tale of a mama llama and her baby llama. After reading a bedtime story, getting a goodnight kiss, and being tucked in for the night, mama llama leaves the room and heads to bed. This upsets baby llama as separation anxiety quickly takes over. baby llama yells for mama llama, but she doesn't come to the room right away. Baby llama gets extremely nervous and begins to have a sort of panic attack. Full of fear, because his mama hasn't come back, the llama begins to cry and wail and scream. Mama llama gets really nervous and comes running into the room. After running into the room, the Mama Llama tells her little baby that she should never be worried because momma llama is always their no matter what. This story is very cute and for children, this is an issue that they all come across when they are young. Most children get separation anxiety when their parents leave them. This would be an adorable book to read to children at night time to comfort them before they go to bed. The illustrations are super adorable. They cover the full page, use very bold colors, and the expressions on the llamas face show every form of emotion. The pictures perfectly represent the dialogue in the story book. The dialogue is perfect for k-2 grades. The cute rhyming scheme makes it fun for children to get involved with, and the repetition will increase a child's fluency. Definitely a book that I will recommend for younger children, especially as a bedtime story.
Such a sweet story... baby llama with his own baby llama 'teddy bear' type snuggler. It is his first day of preschool, and little llama misses his mama terribly. It is right on, as far as the ups and downs of separation, and the rhyming makes it fun for even the littlest listener. The illustrations are surprisingly perfect, in their depiction of emotion on the tiny llama face, and the clear softness is reminiscent of water color art but with a vibrancy most water colors miss.
I hadn't read any of the Llama Llama books before this one, and it was a beautiful introduction. I now have a need for more.
SO cute. Mama drags Llama Llama to run errands at the Shop-O-Rama, when all he really wants to do is play. As we can imagine, this does not make Llama Llama a happy camper. But my favorite thing about this book (aside from the amazing rhyming scheme) is how Mama Llama handles his inevitable tantrum. Llama Llama throws a fit (and a good portion of the shopping cart) but Mama just coolly calms him down by saying how she doesn't like shopping either but she's just happy to spend time with him. How ridiculously sweet is that? And b) can all parents learn to function this way? I have worked in retail for much too long and have seen far too many parents throwing a bigger fit than their children or treating them abominably. Mama Llama wins at life.
