确实是像瑜珈说的，对于think to spell还需要多加体会一下。

再回答你其中的一类问题：单元音+辅音时为什么元音发第一音？
下面从网上找的解释：
什么是英语开音节，闭音节？
1．开音节
    1）以发音的元音字母结尾的单节。例：be，he。
    2）以辅音字母（r 除外）+不发音的e结尾的音节。例：make，like。
    * 在重读的开音节中元音字母按字母名称读音。
2．闭音节
     以一个或几个辅音字母（r 除外）结尾而中间只有一个元音字母的音节，
    称为闭音节。例：map，desk，is。
    *  在重读的闭音节中元音字母读做短元音。
   
    学了SWR后你一眼会发现这个说法不完善，它没有包括Rule 19的情况，即i和o后面如果有两个辅音时（按上面的说法这也属于闭音节），可能发长元音，如bind、gold。另外也有在开音节里不发字母本音的，如do。
    在SWR里spelling rules里，没有使用开音节、闭音节、长元音、短元音的概念（印象中书里也没怎么提，但我不是特别确定）。

    那么在学习SWR时怎么理解单元音+辅音时元音的发音问题呢？
    我是这么理解的，不一定对，仅供参考，欢迎指教和讨论。
    在SWR里有专门的A\E\I\O\U\Y的章节，在Learning Log里也专门有一页。这里面列出了所有单元音发本音的情况。好了，这些情况以外的，不是发第一音就是发第三音，试呗。在WISE GUIDE里，第一音不用标出来，第三音会标个3。在SWR里隐约透露出的意思是（不知我理解得对不对）：元音发第一音是天经地意的事，根本无须特别解释。所以你会发现在SWR和WISE GUIDE里，几乎没解释为什么单元音+辅音时元音发第一音。记下来就行了，遇到单元音+辅音（双辅音）要试音的时候，先试第一音，再试第三音（i和o后面有两个辅音时按第一、二、三音的顺序）。多半是第一音，有时候会是第三音，比如talk，all，put等。

抱歉，对你的问题理解错了。这类问题应该是o+辅音时o的发音问题，比如你提到的other、recover、monkey、dozen、front，为什么o都读成/u/而不是/o/。这个问题在SWR P82 Step12里专门说到。

SWR P82 Step12 这也我看过了，凡是这页里面说到的我都没有问题。我所例举的都是该页没有提到的单词。我以为该页应该把所有用到French Overtone的单词都例举出来。
在这里 lesson  other  recover  monkey dozen  front 我就当也是用了French Overtone.
请哪位 再帮我解释一下  glory    woman   women

还有哪些单词需要发French Overtone 这个有规律吗？ 如果没有规律，就是需要死记住这些单词是用French Overtone。对我而言，凡是需要死记的，和例外情况就没有区别了。

我经历过你这个阶段。"Think to spell "没有理解,只能再看书，自己琢磨。下面几个地方你翻翻SWR，看有没有帮助。
SWR P31 Step5,1c
SWR Step12，P69" drawing words from our brains to the paper"这一段，包括下面的图。
              P84，方框里那句话"Foucus......."。
              P89，EXAGGERATE A PHONOGRAM “We think the sound the way they are spelled to ......"
