On the Possibility of establishing a perfect teaching within the Confucianism Ontological- Mind School under the consideration of the perfect teaching in Buddhist Tien-Tai School as a theoretical model.
The purpose of the dissertation is to investigate the possibility of building a theory of perfect teaching for the Confucianism Ontological- Mind School on the basis of working out a model of perfect teaching. This Model could be developed, if we analyze the perfect teaching of the Buddhist Tien-Tai School by, on the one hand, staining out it’s religious colour, and by, on the other hand, reconstructing it’s universal philosophical meanings.
The dissertation contains five chapters. The first chapter endeavour to trace back historically to the theory of evaluating teachings and to show the significance of the proposing of the perfect teaching by Tien-Tai school. The second chapter analyzes the texts in question that could be found within the development of the Tien-Tai school so that they can be so reconstructed according to the theoretical order of a practical philosophy. In the light of this, they could be divided into the following order bearing traces of the perfect teaching, namely: theory of the of sentient beings, theory of life view, theory of methods of practice. And a model of perfect teaching could then be abstracted from the Tien-Tai Buddhism in order that a confucianist perfect teaching could also be constructed. The third chapter analyze accordingly the theories of human nature , of lifeview and of methods of moral practice of Confucianism Ontological- Mind School so that we can see clearly that the imports of perfect teaching reveal themselves in these theories of Confucianism Ontological- Mind School. The possibility of erecting a perfect teaching in the Confucianism Ontological- Mind School is then to be manifested. The writer tries in the fourth chapter a step further in that he propose for the Confucianist Ontological- Mind School a theory of evaluating teachings which has it’s ground in the perfect teaching of this school. The first 2 chapetrs undertake the work of abstraction and of construction. The second 2 chatpers it’s application and further development for it’s completion. The fifth chater present a short summary of the whole work.
